So long as it remains a personal choice, that is there isn't legislation to prevent or limit performance, I'm OK with the increased focus on fuel economy. I, and I'm sure many other enthusiasts, will find a way to extract performance from whatever is available. Maybe that means changing fuels, a smaller vehicle or increasing the air flow through a fuel cell. Even saving fuel or money elsewhere to make it available for the purpose. Whatever it takes.

I do think that the past decade or so, and maybe the next 5 or so years, will be remembered for some time as a golden age of performance in a similar way to that of the '60s, early '70s before the last 'fuel crisis'. While there may be a short hiatus as adjustment is made, in a free society with freedom of expression, performance will return.
