Damn that's a shame.
I am always a bit wary when someone waves me on and lets me know it's safe to pass, cross over, overtake, whatever.
I must have watched the movie "Duel" a few too many times, where Dennis Hopper is waved on to overtake in the mountains by the evil semi driver and does so, but as he is going past the semi, they come over a rise to find himself looking at the grille of a bloody great truck coming towards him...
