H1 is just the specific bulb type (normal vt headlights are H4, but these new 1s are H1...)
HID are normally used on a lot of top end cars, I know the Accord EURO & S2000's use them.

Basically they are alot brighter than normal globes & look sweet with the projecter lamps which the altezza lights have.
