Air con switch rod VN - VR

Hey guys, my air con / temp / vent switch hasn't been working for some time now. When you turn the switch to switch it between demisters, vents etc, it doesn't do anything, a weak breeze comes out from all vents and won't change. That rod it has on it that clips into that little clip down by the drivers feet is broken. If that rod is not clipped in, would this be the cause of my switch not working?

Hrmm..have you sussed out the back of the control unit?? possible vaccuum leak or just not plug in properly

That rod that clips on to the little plastic arm just controls the Hot/Cold temperature.

you just listed 3 different switches then..

Air Con - Used to turn the air conditioning on or off
Vents - Used to control where the air flows and to which vents
Temp - used to control the temperature of the air.

All three are differnt switches all in differnet places.

Non the less... the lower switch (Temp) has the rod. It connects to the heater core via that plastic lever.

If that is not working, it is likely to only effect your temperature of the air, not the vents it comes from.

The vents are controlled by a set of vaccum tubes which plug in at the top of the heater control unit. There is like 5(maybe) tubes attached in a pattern. If your having vent issues, that is likely to be the cause. Either that plug has failed or the tubes have come loose on the core.

The lower switch changes which vents the air comes out of. Demister / feet / dash etc. I checked all the plugs on the back of the whole unit, they are all fine. Obviously i can't see if any hoses are loose as you have to pull the dash out for that (which is ****ed).

There is a noise in the dash like air escaping (hissing noise). You think that might be what you mentioned then?

No, top switch does that, lower controls heat.

If it has the rod, its the heating device.

The hissing is escaping of vaccumm somewhere. Its usually at the back of the switch but might not be. It isnt a dash out job, just most of center console. Most of the lines can be acessed from the font of the core.

Just need to find where its leaking pressure.

The lines are the thin plastic coloured tubes, not actual coolant lines. They control internal vents with vaccum pressure. Check the connector at the back of the panel first, makes sure its on properly. It has a habit of coming off again when you put the panel back into the console. double check it!

Then worry about lines. The one nearest the drivers foot well comes loose ofter, check it first. Its next to the heater control rod. Youc an see it without having to remove anything.

Yeah i have checked all those connections and plugs. They are all in place and not split or anything. That's the first thing i did. That's why it's got me ****ed as to whats wrong with it. But i'll check that line near the rod.

I always thought there were a few lines with connections up inside the dash.

Where is the hiss coming from? If you can hear it then youll know where its leaking....

Sounds like it's coming from behind the head unit but up above it a little. That's why i thought it was up inside the dash.......There is that plug behind the head unit with the amber coloured connection going into it from the control switch. That's plugged in fine too.

Ok, checked all of above. all lines are connected, rod is in place, ripped the glovebod lid out too and all the console and radio surround. Everything seems in order.

Anything else this could be?
