Bravo Greg, sounds like a great development.![]()
Those who have approached Holden to ask about the factory Bluetooth kit for VY/VZ Commys have probably had to brace themselves agaisnt the counter when they were told the price...
ASR has developed an adaptor kit which will interface between the Holden factory phone switch, the radio connector (for piping the phone audio through the car stereo), and a standard Nokia CK-7W (or CK-1W) hands-free black box.
What we end up with is a steup that looks and functions just as well as the factory kit, for less than half the overall cost. The adadptor cable which has been developed contains a small switching circuit so that the lamp in the factory phone button will "mimic" the LED in the original Nokia button. (this LED flashes certain sequences and different rates to indicate various operational states - other installations would most likey just wire this lamp to the interior lighting circuit, so no status indications...)
I've also designedd a "special" button cap - with a proper Bluetooth logo instead of the historical phone handset icon that the Holden switch uses. Of course it makes no difference operationally, but I prefer the "high tech" look myself...
Final version of the kit are yet to be determined, but initially there will be a couple of different "flavours". If your car still has the white 6 pin connector attached to the harness (beneath the passenger side lower console panel, below the glovebox), then you're in luck. My kit will give you the switch, an adaptor cable, and a few terminals. One end ovfthe cable plugs into the switch itself - the other end has a RJ11 connector to snap into the black box, and the male 6 pin plug to attach to the harness connector described above, with a short length of speaker cable and a 3.5mm plug - also to connect to the black box. Finally, the few terminals are used to attach the Nokia box power harness to the whole affair. Wiring will be colour coded to avoid mis-connection.
For those folks whose car has ad that harness connector cut off, the kit will be supplied with extra bullet terminals, and a comprehensive wiring reference for connection. (it will also be slightly cheaper, due to not requiring the Holden plug and pins)
Initial production is proceeding, I am waiting on some switches at the moment. Pricing is yet to be finalised, but I imagine somewhere around $80-90 including the switch. (worth over $25 from Holden on its own...) The only other things required is the Nokia CK-7W black box, the micrphone, and the power harness for the box. Even a complete CK-7W kit can be bought for less than $150, and that'll have a load of bits you won't need. I do plan to contact Nokia myself soon to dicuss the supply of the above parts only, so then I might be able to offer a complete kit - we'll see how initial responses go.
Photos soon, they will help tell the story a bit better.

The VZ is here! About time!
Thanks Bajo - wouldn't be happening for a short while at least, as I need to get my part of the kit established first...I'll keep an eye open for you though...
Those who might be interested in one of these - I am in the middle of an initial run of these at the moment. One problem I'm having is that I need to buy in certain components from Holden, and right now my cash is pretty tight to say the least. As soon as I'm able to, I'll pick up the bits I need to get these ten kits finalised. Anyone who want to put their hand up for one of these, let me know.

Greg, why dont ya get pre-payment or a deposit from some of the more interested parties?
If people are serious about it they wont mind paying a deposit to allow you to make up the kits??
I had the same idea, have emailed Greg about it. I'm very willing to help him get this kit together![]()
As much as I prefer not to, I think I might take you guys up on this.... It'll help to get it "off the ground" properly. It's all ready to rock, so the sooner I can get it in production and out there, the better.
So who's interested in placing an "advance order"? Pricing will be as follows...
Kit with ASR (Bluetooth logo) switch and factory stereo connector plug - $85
Kit with ASR switch and bullet terminals for vehicle connection - $75
(for situations where the factory connector has been cut from the harness)
Kit with Holden switch and factory stereo connector plug - $75
Kit with Holden switch and bullet terminals - $65
(note that this is initial pricing - it will be reviewed before too long...)
The kit contains a switch to mount into the console, a cable to run from the Nokia control box to the switch (with a small interface circuit integrated), a 3.5mm plug and cable to attach the the speaker output from the black box, and the connector (or wire tails + bullet terminals) to hook the whole she-bang into the stereo. What the kit DOESN'T contain is the black box itself, the microphone, and the power harness. (all contained in the Nokia kit, along with some other bits that aren't required...)
So who wants one??PM or email initial interest...

thats fairly decent acctually, I made a similar plug based off some instructions found on another forum and needless to say had this been available I would have bought this, plug and play - ready to go!
Come on guys, it'll be worth it to give your car the factory bluetooth look![]()
Hi Greg,
Sounds good. My car has had the Nkia control button ripped out by the previous owner, which is always good of them.
So just to clarify, this button will allow my to more effectively make and answer calls?
I will have the white plug and what not.
G'day Garth!
Yes Mate, effectively it interfaces between the stanard Nokia control box, the Holden phone button, and the stereo harness connector. There is a small circuit involved, that's to make the light in the factory switch "imitate" what the LED in the Nokia button does. (different flash rates and sequences depending on status) I do still need to get some photos of the thing (coming soon guys, I promise!!) and it will make more sense. It essentially allows you to plug between the Nokia black box, the factory harness connector for the stereo, and the factory Holden switch. Works better than the Holden kit, for less than half the cost.
Get a hold of me, I'll make up one for you without the white plug - I'll use bullets on the ends of my cable to make is easy for you to connect.
For those guys already waiting - not long now fellas, work is in progress.

Hey Phreddy, I must say this is a good initiative!
Just curious about the compatibility - will this only work with Nokia or any bluetooth enabled phone?
Cheers
LATEST NEWS: The difference between a pigeon and a London investment banker - The pigeon can still make a deposit on a BMW
it connects to the Nokia bluetooth kits thats avail from mobile phone shops.
I have a CK-7W installed in my car, it has connected various phones in the past such as various Nokias, Blackberry, Sony Erricsons even an iPhone.
Greg is selling the button part to the kit, not the kit itself, because the kit itself is a non genuine aftermarket kit that comes with its own button that you stick onto the trim somewhere via double sided tape.
This replaces the aftermarket round Nokia button (Answer/Hang Up etc) with a factory button that sits behind the window switches where buttons like TC, ESP, HDC etc sit (some cars have no buttons here) so it makes your car look factory.
Hope this helps ...
PM sent.
Found this thread after placing a bid on the CK-7W.
I was going to give it a shot myself but your going to make it so much easier

chev you wont be dissapointed.
I'll find my install photos to give ya an idea on where I mounted the unit because ive seen some pretty interesting ideas on places people have mounted them and i dont agree with mostIt needs to be central yet protected and hidden away and some peoples installs have them too close to other interfearance, or in a spot they can be kicked or lose the signal to the phone

i was thinking behing the centre console underneath the storage thingy.
I have a tonner so there's no vents there
Or even double sided taped to the front under the window swithes if there's room.
Thats where the phone will be sitting most the time
Where did you mount your's

I installed mine under the panel where the phone connector is, heaps of room and keeps it nicely hidden![]()
YEH thats essentially it, directly under the rubber mat section is perfect - fits in perfect and its still central to the car.i was thinking behing the centre console underneath the storage thingy.
How can I get one of these kits, sounds good

guys I'll take names and phone numbers for those that are serious about this. Greg needs some advance orders as each kit needs to be built on an as-required basis.
please PM me your name and a phone number and which kit your interested in

Hi Phreddy
How much would it cost for just the cable that runs from the Nokia control box to the switch with the intergrated interface circuit.
Regards
