VT/X Dash lighting conversions - Line 'em up!!

At long last, I have reliable and repeatable results for VT / VX / VU dash lighting conversions. This will come as good news for a lot of guys, despite taking a while...

:

As is done with the VY/Z and VE conversions, basically everything is changed. Colours are a little limited, in that the heater controls do have a green filter film behind the mask - so if white backlighting is chisen, the green still shows. Colours such as blue or orange are able to "punch through" the filtering though, and looks quite nice. Note too those with the electronic climate control module.... Results with these might be a bit odd, as the buttons themselves have heavy filtering moulded into them which can't be removed - another work in progress, so guinea pigs are welcome...

The cluster is converted with a pair of custom desgned PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) to mount an array or white LEDs for scale illumination, and red LEDs for the needles. Alternative colours for the needles are available at extra cost, but colour morphing is not yet possible - Ant and I are working on this, and I for one would like to think it can be designed as a "retro-fit" affair, so that those who have had the conversion done can return for the morphng needle "upgrade" once development is complete.

Conversion for the factory stereo fascia is quite involved, due to the fact that it's normally lit with globes. Quite a bit of manual work with the LED lenses are required to provide decent results. As a result the cost for doing these might seem a bit steep - however I'm under the impression that the vast majority have aftermarket units fittted anyway.

Prices on application for the moment, and depend on interior configuration. (power window switches, auto or manual, that kind of stuff...) plus anyone who can help with a deposit of some kind are MOST welcome! I do need to stock up on some bits to get fully going on this, so deposits will help a great deal on those lines. For quotes please email me, phreddy@asr-audio.com.au

Do you have any pics of the heater controls in white? Is there still a lot of green coming through or is it just a tinge?

Ive got a test sample pics of some that ive done i havent had a chance 2 speak 2 Greg about this yet but will do very shortly. The Green can b removed but its very delicate work and time consuming.

Basically if u want white it can work but u'll b left with a very slight off colour white. U can only notice this wen u have the other switches converted 2 white such as ur A/S and demister buttons, mode and headlight switch ect.... as they use white plastic already behind the symbols, it really depends on how picky u wanna b keep in mind these r no where near as easy as the VY-VE's 2 change so not everything is gonna b 100% perfect but very close 2 it.

One thing though.... How come the only people left with VT/VXs are in Melbourne???? C'mon you blokes in Sydney - there have been numerous inquiries over a time, have you lost interest?? I need to get things rolling along before I can take it on the road to Vic and other states....

Try to remember that I'm one bloke, trying to get a lot done - and scrape up an existence as well! Producing these goodies requires a bit of investment in not only time, but materials... and they cost real money.... Which I need to come up with well before I can start installs.

(I didn't step into this situation - ie, trying to make a full time living out of this - by choice. The media spin doctors are boasting about how well Australia's done in the recession - well I lost MY bloody job!! I'm not exactly rolling in clover either - just scraping by would be more accurate.... Bollocks to the bloody media...)

Anyways, enough ranting. Hopefully interest will pick up soon....

Just keep in mind its not the same as the cluster facia rich its really fiddly and if u dont rub it all off evenly u can go through the white film thats under the green that will then turn ur facia clear and create hot spots. Also being white if theres tiny splotches of green at all thats not rubbed off u will see them wen the white trys 2 shine through.

Phreddy you should of received an email from a guy in Vic that is interested in helping you out down here. I suggested he get into contact with you as he has some experience in doing blue LED dashes and switches in VT-VX's.

Guys, I keep on saying this.... the buttons on the ECC (Berlina, Calais, etc...) CANNOT BE CHANGED TO WHITE!!! (well, everything else can be, but not the ECC buttons...)

The buttons have green plastic moulded into them, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove! (yes, as Ant pointed out it CAN be done in white with the standard heater controls, but requires a LOT of fiddling - and therefore will attract higher pricing - but for the Electronic Climate Control, it cannot be done!)

Blue light will "punch trough" the green filtering, as will orange. I haven't yet tried red, but with any luck it might just get through the green - although it might not either. Yellow would probably work fine as well.

When time permits I'll see what I can do - but I won't take any action which might cause damage - simple as that.
