Default Colour shifting footwell lights - all models - ready to go.

    Hi Folks.

OK, we can now offer our colour shifting footwell lights. Based on a series of RGB LEDs running from a microprocessor based controller, it provides either front only, or front and rear, all in a synchronous shifting pattern.

On the controller box, there are three switches. One selects between a sequenced or random colour pattern, the second selects a "slow blend" or "fast switch", and the third switch allows you to "stop" on a particular colour you like. The LEDs are active with the interior courtesy lighting circuit, although a switch can be added to "over-ride" - in other words, this allows the footwell lights to be on with the doors closed, and independent of the dome light.

These are not model specific, they'll work in any car which uses a "switched ground" scheme for the courtesy lighting circuit - in other words, the + side of the lamp is permanently connected - the ground side runs to the door switches, and is connected to the chassis when the door is opened. (all Commy's are this way, and most other manufacturers as well....)

I can almost hear the cries of "How much??" - breakdown below....

Front footwells only - includes two strips of LEDs, the controller box, and cabling - $120 supplied, $140 installed.

Front and rear footwells - includes four stips of LEDs, controller box, and cabling - $150 supplied, $180 installed.

Over-ride switch - additional $15 installed. (no supply only price, as any switch would do the job....)

I have a few already assembled, but most of these are allocated to customers. Before I commence the first full "production run", I need some feedback as far as interest goes, so please either PM or email to phreddy@asr-audio.com.au . Advance orders are welcome, but the way things are at the moment I will need a significant deposit.

There's no demo video at the moment (still photos are a bit useless... ), but I'm working on this and will post to YouTube soon. This thread will be updated wih the link at this time.

D-Man - there are fixed colour footwell strips available also, these are considerably cheaper than the colour shifting ones....

That's the point - the ones I describe in this thread are constantly changing. Kinda like those "mood light" things.... If set to "slow blend", the colour changes constantly. If set to "switch colour" mode, then every few seconds the colour switches to the next in the sequence. The "hold" switch is there to allow stopping on the colour you like for the moment. If you change your mind tomorrow, or want to go back to multicolour, then set that switch back to "run".

If you simply want single fixed colour strips, there is no microprocessor controlled box required - just the strips themselves, and perhaps a little wiring depending on which model your car is.

(Mate, I wouldn't be charging that sort of money for the fixed colour ones! LOL!!)

Scyth - I reckon I've probably answered your question too Mate... And thanks for the call the other day - very encouraging to know that there are some people who actually DO give a good God-damn...

    Cheerz guyz....

    Woohoo!!

lol, Yeah as you might already know I'm keen for these!

I like the sound of the 'mood' lighting effect, but want to see it in action,
If I don't go with the colour changing version, it will definately be something along the lines of Blue, or Blue/White maybe...?

Any chance of having an intensity/brightness controller? Just another turn dial/switch (variable resistor) on the 'power in'?

G'day Paul.... Good to hear from you Mate.

Ummmm - you have confused me though Mate! The "colour shifting" lights are just that! The colour is constantly changing - it can be "held" on blue, but they'll do every other colour in the spectrum as well! If you want fixed colour blue - or white - then that's too easy. And a good bit cheaper!

Matt - one here Mate, just need to finish off the strips for you.

Josh - YouTube vid to be uploaded as soon as I can shoot one. Dimming ain't quite THAT simple, but should be able to work something out.

    Hi Greg,

With the "hold" feature, is this a setting I can fix it to so every time I open the door it's always the same colour (white, for example), or does it always cycle until I press the hold switch each time?

I'm also keen to see some pictures of how it mounts up (ie, day time, turned off, just pictures of the lights).

I'll happily take a set if it can be fixed on a given colour, has a brightness control and mounts up nicely.

    Cheers.

    G'day Greg!
Great to see another awesome product.

Question: is there any way to have only, say, two colours, as opposed to the whole spectrum? So like, its blue while the doors are closed, but white when you open them, or even have blue and white and a switch to rotate between only those two colours?

So - (Just clarifying this for me, and everyone else..) is the colour changing model of these the three main colours - (red, green, blue,)
Or is one of the functions where they sort of 'blend' in together, blending from one colour to another, eg blue to purple to red, etc... Like the colour morphing needles sort of??

The 'Dimming' isn't essential, but was thinking it could be a nice addition, I still leave all my dash lights up on max brightness!

Be sure to let me know when you have a set ready for me, and a time to throw them in too - if your time is free enough to fit me in, (if your schedual is pretty full I might have a go at the install!)

And I'll have to get you to have a look over my 'Power' button, it's decided not to light up anymore! Hopefully we can get it sorted.
Can I drive the car without it in, pull it out before I come down, to make it easier for you to just check out the LED, speed things up a bit...?

    Great response!

OK, to clear a couple of things up.....

The central element in this setup is a RGB LED. That's NOT to say that the colours are limited to red, green, and blue.... Think about it - look at a colour TV screen - real close - maybe through a magnifier.... The picture is made up of thousands of tiny red, green, and blue dots - the relative intensity of each is controlled so that all colours in the visible spectrum can be reproduced. See?? Yes, the individual colour elements are mixed together to produce purple, white, pale blue, orange, yellow, and this can be set to follow a cycle pattern, or based on a pseudo-random scheme. (in other words, it won't shift between the same repeating pattern, it will be "whichever pops up" sort of thing) Also selectable is whether the colours "switch" from one to another, or slowly "morph" - in which case the colour changes constantly - like the mood lights I spoke about in a previous post.

And Danja - yes Mate, once the selected colour is "held", that remains "in memory" so that when you open the door next, it's still on that colour. The only time you would need to reset this would be if the battery was disconnected, or the interior lamp fuse has blown.

Vid to come soon Hardstyle, need to give the Statey a tidy-up inside, and it'll happen. (had to take care of an overheating problem first...)

guys I saw the very first protoypes of this and can say, it'll blow you away when you see it.

Seeing as its that time of year, think of the fibre optic xmas trees you see where the tips change colour - its exactly like that colourwise, but for your car!!

Well in that case, I think it's safe to say scratch the Blue/white idea, and sign me up for the full she`-bang!

Is there a possibility of hooking up two sets together, like adding a few extra strips of the LED's?? For either in the boot, and/or under the doors, (as someone mentioned in another thread, unsure of who?) so it shines out onto the road when the doors open... And running them off the one control box??

If so, we might need a custom order there Greg!! lol..

Can't wait to see this Vid..

Zeussy - I can't see any problems with what you're after, although yes indeed I would have to consider it a "custom" job.... There's not quite enough drive current from the box to run that many "light engines" (my little pet name for an array of LEDs ), so I'd have to add an extra "driver box" to take care of that. Not something I have on the drawing board yet, but not particularly complicated...

Hmmm, email sent for price for the white solid color ones installed in my new baby - the VE. I phreddy'd up the VZ SV6 pretty early in the piece (First auto you had done if I remember rightly), so it seems fitting I do the same to the VE lol
