Hey people
Im currently looking to install a sub and amp into my VZ but keep in mind that I want to keep my stock headunit
Is this possible,
Ive heard of RCA line level converter but I dont have a great understanding on them and where can they be purchased?
Any help much appreciated
PM Phreddy as this is one of many signature based specialities.
Thanks Zeussy and Scyth - Ash, I have received your email. I'll reply shortly with my phone number, as I reckon it's probably better to actually "chat" about it.
Cheerz!
PS - Never never NEVER use LOCs... (Line Out Converters) THEY SUCK GOLF BALLS THROUGH GARDEN HOSES!! Causes you to effectively waste your money on the high quality components you're using externally - doesn't matter how good your amp and speakers are, if you're feeding them a crappy signal, they'll sound - well, crappy! (by comparison to how they COULD be performing, anyway...)

bahahahaaa...
Are you slow??
Depending on the sort of sound quality you want
With a standard line level converter it takes the speaker output of the factory head unit and turns it into a rca output, the only problem with this is sound quality and sometimes a chance of engine noise. The poor sound quality is because of two reasons, one the factory head unit doesn’t have anywhere near the same power has an aftermarket head unit and two it doesn’t have the EQ for it. A line level converter can cost anywhere between $30 to $150 depending on the quality and functions. If you are worried about sound quality I would suggest to go for a processor which is basically a pre amp which has the power and massive EQ it makes any factory head unit sound amazing but it does cost around $1400
hope this helps

Even with a sound processor, it will still be effectively driven by an LOC. And a LOC does NOT really tuen a speaker level output into an "RCA" output... It simply limists the signal voltage, to make it appear to be RCA signal levels. A TRUE RCA output is driven out of the PRE amp, before the internal power amp stages. Those processor units CAN be made to work very well, but LOCs are a dirty word on the ASR forums....
My business is based partly around modifying factory units to provide true pre-amp outputs. It can be done, and the results are astounding. Before anyone spouts how it can't be done, should maybe spend a little while longer reading around these - and other - forums. The technique was developed - by ASR - several years ago, and in countless installations performs to show-winning standards in some cases.
But I will ask again - for the umpteenth time - please do not be advising people to buy aftermarket head units in the ASR forum! There's a general car audio forum on JC for that, thanks.
Oh, and power levels from a head unit are all much the same - regardless of how the manufacturers fiddle their figures.... The best you will get into a 4 ohm load, from a 13.5 volt power supply, is about 17 watts RMS. (note I refer to RMS power...) Into 2 ohms, obviously you'll practically double that - but not many HUs are capable of two ohm loads anyway. It's a physical truth - a fact based on true principles of electronics. To say that aftermarket HUs are more powerful than the factory unit isn't really correct...
