Default Next Brisbane roadshow - coming soon! Interest??

    G'day All.

OK, now that I'm winding up this course I've been doing, it's time to get back to work properly.

I have a few emails from folks in Queensland, but not yet enough to warrant a trip up there. If anyone is keen to get some lighting or stereo mods done, please shoot me an email - phreddy.asr@gmail.com - as soon as I get enough people to book in, I'll take a trip up there.

Please don't ask about VR/VS yet, that's still in development - in prototype stage at the moment, so not far away - I reckon by the time I head up that way next, that'll be ready to go.

Anyone who would like the work done for VT onwards though, put your hand up and I'll book you in!

I did get your email, thanks Mate.

In fact, I'm aiming at getting this trip done before you'll be in town, but I'll certainly be doing more. Might not be straight after you arrive in Qld, but hopefully not long after.

    Thanks for your interest!

Oneandonly - reckon I should be able to come through Tenterfield on either the way up or back - especially if I can pick up a job in Toowoomba or thereabouts. It wasn't the last trip I did up that way, but the trip before - my last job was in Toowoomba, and I just headed down the New England from there. Reckon we should be able to swing something for ya!

Greg, You know i need work done. So let me know when you are coming up.

My project car is on hold now, After speakers costing surplus of 5G's and loosing my job on Friday - I have sent myself broke. So this leaves no more money for the car.

But if it helps you out i will find a way to rack up money to get you to finish off my rig.

    Cheers,
    Ben

Ah Jesus - sorry to hear that Ben.

Definitely Mate, I'll be popping in to see you. That little bit of work you need done - I'll talk to you about that, and the "other thing" of course. (I'll do the right thing by ya Mate...)

    Greg,

Keep the "Other thing" off your mind, It's nothing to stress over. I know things are pretty tight for everyone.

On another note, How much lighting could i run off the one lighting circuit? As in if i put too many lights in can i over load the BCM?

I was taking a ride in a BA the other day, They have a switch for the interior lighting in the dash. When you turn them off they slowly dim out, Is this possible to do with Berlina's and how hard?

    Cheers,
    Ben

    APOLOGIES FOR BEING VERY OT:
Would be interesting to see a reostat installed inline with the LED's Super66, standard low wattage ba15's etc, yes. Being LED's the required resistance change to dim them would be so close to an open circut that the finesse of the reostat required would be... interesting, at least!. To be honest, as a sparky myself, ive never bothered to attempt it. Ive only ever bothered to install them in an on/off configuration. Ever given this a stab greg? What kind of results did you find?

Mods: No problem asking this question sober, and in a new thread. If you dont want it tacked onto this thread, lemme know! I am however, very interested in a response! I could have sworn ive seen a reostat/LED setup in modern vehicles, Lancers/Echo etc, but cant be certain.

    Heh - no worries jakstas...

In fact, the best way to dim LEDs is to "pulse width modulate" the voltage / current supply. For those who don't know what I'm on about, PWM is a method where the voltage is switched on and off at a high frequency (too high for the human eye to see it flashing), and the wider the "on" pulse is, the brighter the LEDs appear to be. The truth is, they ARE flashing on and off, it's just too quick for us to percieve - a lot like the way a TV picture is actually made up of a series of still images, but they're coming along so quickly that we perceive it as a moving picture. (in fact, that's the way the dimming circuit works in VY and VZ - at full brightness, the pulse is "on" for 100% of the time - as it's dimmed down, the "on" pulse is made narrower, which reduces the average current through the LED - therefore making it appear less bright. Not sure if that's the way the Lancers are done, the rheostat might be controlling the pulse width - pretty standard circuit....

What I've been trying in VT and VX is to use a "dummy load" to pull more current through the dimming resistor (because the LEDs draw much less current than the original globes do), therefore creating more voltage drop across that dimming resistor - reducing the voltage applied to the LEDs and reducing the current through them. Seems to work out OK sofar...

Makes perfect sense Greg. No idea why I decided it was a good idea to ask that at 2am after being on the Long Island Ice Tea at Cactus Jacks however

    Greg,

What about for those of us who don't want to use LED ?

In the stock VZ dimming system, Does it have something to do with the BCM? As i was told a while ago that i think you can adjust the time out on them. . . ?

    Please PM me some info.

    G'day Ben.

Well, PWM has the same effect when using a globe - essentially what's happening is that because we're dealing with PULSES, the AVERAGE current through the globe - or LED - is reduced - therefor it appears less bright.

In fact, pulse width modulation is a technique used in light dimming, motor speed control, heating element control, and so on. When really high current becomes involved though, it becomes expensive 'coz you need GRUNTY transistors to take care of the switching.

Heh - there ya go - a VERY brief rundown on PWM principles...

    Cheerz!

PS - and yes Ben, the PWM controller for the interior lighting IS in the BCM.... But don't get it confused with the headlight circuits though - these aren't modulated, they're either on or off. There might be delay timers and stuff, but no PWM control....

definatly up for this, i have a question as well, w/ autometer gauges are you able to give them the same sort of conversion that you would be doing on a dash? ex blue white conversion?

    Hey guys...

Those waiting for the Brissy trip - apologies to you all, but there has been several who seem to have lost interest, coupled with the fact that in the last couple of weeks my priority was getting enough together to get the ank off my back over the mortgage....

Those who have paid their deposit, my eternal appreciation and an ASSURANCE that I will get there soon - I just need to get the numb ers up just a little more, otherwise the trip will end up costing ME money, which I can't manage at this stage,... I will get in touch with you all via email in the next day or so with some details of when. (hopefully next week if all goes well)
