Dont think it works that well - fuel gauge goes the wrong way from memory...

    ^^^^ As above

You'll have to check that you have the correct coloured plug in the back of the cluster (blue or grey). From memory only series 1 VY suits VYI, series 2 -> VYII and so on. Also the fuel sender may need replacing to get the fuel gauge to work the correct way which is around the $400 mark.

simple answer is stick to VY dash for VY and VZ dash for VZ. (blue plug is VZ grey is VY) as the fuel guage reads wrong if you miss match.

If you get a dash from a V8 to fit to a V6 you need it re-calibrated to suit, as the speedo will be out for instance.

this should be moved to another section but for the VY series 1 you cant use a series 2 as the fule gauge works in reverse, after the series 1 you just need to get the same coulor plug to sute yours.
if its out of a different speck car to yours you will need to get some things changed like motor type, trans, number of air bags, etc, the motor wont throw out the speedo the diff steeings will, the motor will give you strange rpm readings.

Its all been covered pretty well, its basically an entire splice job if you dont line everything up, easiest way could be when you get the new dash, get the harness plugs with it, might be able to change the ends to suit... but this also depends on transmission/engine/dash trim level (features).
