Gday guys, I can appreciate that this is ASR Audio & Electronics thread however I am struggle to find one that stays on topic long enough to find the answers that I am after. I have recently purchased a 2006 model VE, and am interested in upgrading stereo as a fairly high priority. Like many of you I am keen to keep the look of the car as standard as possible, as well as maintaining the steering wheel standard functionality. Has anyone looked into the car System Integration Audio Processor from Alpine, if they have can they send me a PM and let me know if it as good as alpine makes it out to be. It is a fairly expensive option ($700) but it allows for any system noise and equaliser work done by the standard head unit to be filtered out, re-processed and then sent to the speakers; that is uses the standard head unit as an input device before applying the “alpine high quality” sound processing then sending it to the speakers and essentially tuning the car into a high-end sound system (4.1, maybe 6.1 not sure) without loosing the normal functionality.
That aside, a couple of questions for you phreddy as you seem to be the most knowledgeable person on just-commodores in regards to stereo modifications. If the factory speaker outputs are used and the speakers are upgraded do you think that the overall quality increases (and if so by how much) or is it a waste of money as the standard h/u is fairly average in its output quality. Have you looked at creating an 8.1 setup (tweeters, front and rear doors, parcel shelf + sub setup) using your sub modifications and again if so how has this been achieved. Thirdly and finally does the standard single CD unit have the functionality for a MP3 6 stack to be added in the boot?
Sorry for the long and off topic post but it is a little hard to find the answers to these questions. If there is a more appropriate place to be posting these questions please let me know. Regards mickyj

Micky spot on for asking there questions Im sure others will want the answer too as well.
Greg might not be online in the immediate future, i know he's back into full swing working on boards and bits and pieces, and I believe may still be experiencing internet issues.
Well I probably could provide some answers IF Alpine the company had ever bothered to get back to me with support enquiries. As a "small operator" it seems I don't matter to them, so as far as I'm concerned I don't give a RAT'S RING how good they claim their product is.
The simple fact is that it's trying to re-construct a noisy / distorted signal, and that is NOT POSSIBLE. It isn't, I don't care what they say. To do it PROPERLY - the noise has to be filtered out before it reaches any of the analog subsystems. Additionally, once the signal has passed through on board amplifiers, IT IS DISTORTED. People should be very careful when they claim that they can "remove distortion" - even for $700 plus. If it was that cheap and easy to do, wouldn't recording studios and hi-fi afficionados have been using this technology for years??? They haven't - because it doesn't exist.
(oh, and if you're filtering out noise, how do you know that you're not losing some of the program material at that frequency as well?? Heh - you DON'T!)
Anyhow, on top of all that.... I'm struggling my backside off for a dollar, and I'm becoming a little tired of seeing other company's goods - companies who take no time to help out a small guy - discussed in this forum. There is a thread for general audio questions - ASR tries to improve factory audio the proper - analog - way, at affordable prices. Without claiming "snake-oil" remedies to polish a turd....
