Default ASR Audio Modded Head Unit VS Aftermarket Headunit

I'm hoping to have ASR mod my stock VY head unit when Greg comes down to Adelaide but now I'm considering just getting an after market head unit (most likely 7" screen)

My reason for reconsidering the modification is that I was listening to a stock headunit with a sub running from a LOC and it didn't sound to great because you couldn't control the sub. So can someone with a modded head unit tell me how there system sounds and if they would reconsider getting the mod over a after market head unit?

I'm still keen on the modification becasue I wanna keep the sterring wheel controls etc. but now I'm considering the sound quality side of things, so any help would be great.

You can get adaptors to use the steering wheel controls with after market head units.

Personally, i went for a Aftermarket Head Unit for my VZ, mainly because of the many additional features i got and i got it for a great deal (haggled down the JB HiFI Rep for just above cost price).

But yes, you have to get an additional harness, etc for using an aftermarket head unit (that supports remote function) with the steering controls.

Now when i was at JB Hifi, the guy quoted me $297 for an adaptor suitable, but you can get them cheaper from Ebay (eg. seen them for $120~) and elsewhere (be careful not to get poor quality ones).

Sorry for the late response but what Greg uses can't be compared to your standard LOC - A system Greg did with the modified headunit actually won an award for sound quality/clarity etc etc. The judge was astounded what was achieved with the factory head unit.

    Just food for thought.

You could use a product like this to control your aftermarket stereo with the stock steering wheel controls -
    THE CAT
