Hey there sik888.
Hang in there Mate - my eldest son has just bought a VS, so I'll try and talk him into letting me use it as a guinea pig!
Are you thinking about a full conversion, or just the instrument cluster?

I've done the blue LED conversion in my VS Calais guys. That includes climate control module, trip computer, instrument cluster, courtesy footwell lamps, power window switches, indicator lamps (all the green ones on the cluster converted to blue, such as PWR light, cruise light and indicators) fog light switch, trip computer buttons, demister switch.
The result is quite nice except i have 2 major gripes. The gauge illumination is POOR with blue LEDs in place of the lamps, as the needles themselves are backlit orange and the blue does not shine through very brightly at all. Similar gripe with the auto gear indicator. I am fixing both these problems soon by buying a custom set of gauge faces. I emailed one of the guys who does white face gauges and he confirmed that he can do gauges exactly the same as factory, but with a blue filter instead of the green. This way they will be nice and bright with the standard filament lamps, or even white LEDs, and the needles will still shine bright orange like they should. Same deal with the auto shifter indicator. If you want any more info on how to do the conversion or parts of it then just ask

Well done Shagz, although I am trying to drum up a little business here....
I tried some of the wedge based LEDs CruisingOzy was talking about, my review here... The dash light "wedge" LEDs on eBay...
Hmmm, so much for that...
Anyhow, development is continuing. Cheerz!

You're dead right there about the T10 globes Phreddy! I bought some for mine but they were NOT EVEN wide angle!! I removed the crap 10mm LEDs and replaced them with some 170 degree viewing angle LEDs. Light is spread evenly with these but the brightness and needle illumination still leaves a lot to be desired.
Sorry to steal your trade secrets Phreddy but I'm a big fan of the DIY approach I look forward to seeing a kit produced though
EDIT: attached pics

Maybe on this forum, but a LOOONG time ago (longer than I care to remember! ) I was trying to change my instrument lighting to blue - back when I was driving an old LC Torana! (that didn't work out too well though - but I'm a bit older and wiser now!)
Hey Shagz - no problem Mate! You're not taking any "secrets" from anybody!
I was doing some more playing with the VS cluster last night - I'm trying to get around this without having to replace the dial masks as well (to keep the cost down as much as possible) but it's not going to be easy! Ah, why couldn't they go with the VY/VZ method a few years earlier? | | |
