    Default Footwell & boot lighting

    Hey Phreddy,
Just got a mate who wants to the same footwell lighting as you did for mine & also the same mini-neons for the boot.

I guess the main thing his is looking for is to see if it can be done in white instead of the blue?

Look forwards to hearing from you!

    Cheers
    Rich

PS. I also want to get the same mini-neons in my boot too....

Are they rigged to turn on with the interior lights (ie. when doors open/are unlocked etc), or via separate switch?

How much did it cost you roughly for the lights?

I wouldn't mind some blue ones coming on when my doors open =P

And is there thread with a guide on hooking it up or is it something for a pro to do ;]

It works when the lights come on.... so when the doors come open the blue lights come on....

Not sure how difficult it is to do... Phreddy did it really easy.

Jaycar sell cold cathode tubes which I believe are suitable:
    Jaycar Electronics

They also have white ones (my personal preference).

Wiring wouldn't be too hard I imagine. I'm sure Google knows

    Thumbs up Footwell lighting

I have done the back of mine, don't have any pics atm but wasn't that hard, i hooked it up into the 12v plug in centre console and has a seperate switch, i have bought cathode tubes but on a hot summers day when your car gets to about 40 degrees they don't like it too much and tend to crack. I bought some of these ebay LED strips, bought the same price as jaycar ones but a lot brighter and more reliable.
If you buy more than one from this store they take 20% off postage i think so works out the same price as jaycar ones

Found these as well, dunno about the quality of these though

i COULD do it. but i cant guarantee my work is 100% quality.

i just edited wire on drivers side middle pillar and used electricians connectors to join all necessary wires.

Sorry guys - I haven't replied to this, because I'm having trouble getting hold of the 4" CCFL tubes now. (the 12" ones are just too much light - over the top) I am experimenting with LEDs at the moment - wide angle LEDs arranged in a strip of 10 or so pcs seem to be a good substitute.

Wingwang - your point about the cracking of the tubes in extreme heat.... I've had mine in there for ages and never had a problem - parked in the sun in Western Sydney - temps over 40 in the summer.... It does have a lot to do with how you mount them too, you need to leave a little "expansion flex" so that various materials can expand or contract at different rates. (oh, by the way - I don't use the "pre-mounted" tubes in the plastic sleeves - I was buying in the bare 4" tubes with the separate inverter and mounting them well up inside the footwell so as not to be damaged. I had bad experiences with the pre-mounted ones myself, purely because the CCFL tube is bonded inside the plastic protective tube - plastic and glass expand at vastly different rates, and because the tube is glued in there the glass cracks as a result.

Anyhow, keep an eye out - I'll be doing something with this real soon.

That would be why, i used the pre bonded ones and they lasted about a day (in winter), got rid of them straight away. I'm not sure if you've seen them greg, but on ebay they sell led strips, i have bought one (very overpriced around $10 for 10 leds on a plastic strip) but they do the job quite well... Maybe have a look might give you some ideas.
