What amp for my VT??

I own a '98 VT Calais and I want to get an amp for it. The truth is I know jack all about car audio and was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I want to keep my stock speakers, so what sort of amp spec's should I be looking at(watts, rms, etc.).
Any help would be much appreciated.

If ur just amping ur stock speakers only i wouldnt bother amping those u wont get much performance out of them as they r designed 2 operate with the headunits amp. Id suggest replacing the stock speakers get a decent set of front splits spend most of ur money on these and some 6.5" or 6" coaxles in the rears. If u got no sub some 6x9s would b better off amped.

exactly.

you'd be better off getting a higher powered head unit (4x50w ect..) if you wanna keep the stock speakers

Ok, so say I bought a 4x140 RMS amp with a 5600W capacity, what sort of speakers should I get?

Speakers that can run as close 2 140wrms as u can. try not 2 go over if u can help it tho, will save wear n tear on ur speakers if not set right on ur amps. Brand name well its up 2 u, if u like the sound of them buy them the choice is really urs.

And also, what is meant when it says that a speakers is 3-way or 4-way or whatever else?
