Default VY s2 Acclaim Colour Morphing Needles

    Hey guys and girls,

Just writing up to show off my recently ''Phreddy-erized'' dash..
I think it looks pretty awesome myself, what do you guys and girls think of it??

I went with the blue LED conversion with white dials, and colour morphing needles, - blue to purple to mauve to red, they look sweet as, I had the 'red' needles, and after swapping them with ones Phreddy had prepared earlier i now have white ones! and the Air/con and rear demister buttons white, also with Phreddy's suggestion of orange blinkers they look great, and stand out from the rest of the dash nicely..

On the way home, at every red light along the Northern H/way I found myself putting it back to first, and going till i saw the needles go through the full colour range!!!

If there are any of you thinking out there I want this done - but not too sure about it, either with thinking is it worth it, or how can i trust someone i dont know?
let me just say by my experience it IS well worth it, it is like you are driving a completely different car!! And with Phreddy, or Greg (as he is also known as!) he is the best bloke i have had the pleasure in dealing with, be it just the friendly attitude, he makes you feel completely welcome, and is willing to work out any issues that may arise, if any, and being totally flexible to work out a fair compromise on ANY colour that you could choose, (besides, pink and purple, I think, sorry to all the girls that want these colours!!) he even washed the part of my dash where you cant get to it when its complete!! LEGEND!!!

And if you are thinking, "ohh i did a dick smith kit when i was younger, im pretty handy with the ol' soldering iron, ill just get a kit off him," I strongly reccomend you dont just get the kit, you really should go to Phreddy to get the complete install done,

I was originally thinking yeah, im a mechanic - and do all my own auto-electrical work, I should be able to do it.. PFFFT!! after watching him do mine, the level of professionalism about Phreddy just made me realize how wrong i was!! If you aren't an electrical wizard I would highly recommened that you get someone that is to install it, if your in another state where where you cant get to Phreddy and you buy a kit of him, or you could have a chat with him because he's starting up the "Roadshows" where he travels, to Melbourne - Brisbane and pretty much anywhere in between!

I also opted for the Police Pack, digital speedo option, looks great, and easy to read, and the HSV option, on start-up it comes up with the logo, i only did this becasue i wanted the custom writing on the dash, where the build number for a HSV would be, getting 'My Acclaim 003' - as in a 2003 model, but being a VY could only have three numbers on it.. And Phreddy also re-calibrated my speedo - to suit my 20's, originally it was out by like 5km at 100km/hr.. with the right tools its possible to do anything!! the possiblities are almost endless with Phreddy in your corner!!

And the stereo mods, for the low level pre-outs, they sound awesome i heard Phreddy's own car and it sounded crystal clear, a beautiful sound with MP3 input, like an ipod.. it is a great mod to keep youre original stereo and still be able to hook up amps, and connect your i-pod, or alike into and have thousands of songs available... I will be getting mine done in the near future when i find my old one!!

And when its all over with you can kick back with the man, and have a cold one, or two, or three!! to admire the new dash lights he does for you!

The white looks pretty nice mate, i want colour morphing needles too, i reckon that'll be first priority after the audio converison for when Phreddy does the road trip.

Nice Post, i'm sure our man Phreddy will appreciate it

lol I think my avatar speaks for itself ... although its out of date coz it now has white screen with the blue to red needles

Looks good on the standard dash, if I had known about it earlier I wouldnt have botheres sourcing an SS dash, oh well

jet-6, i dont know if zeussy has footage, but my setup is pretty much identical.
i think mine was phreddys test subject for the morphing.

haha, thats alright Phreddy.. its a great install,

Did you get my PM about the window switches - it was even worse today, and the gear light indicators??
Just need to get them sorted and it'll be sweet!

I will get a video soon of them working, I think there is a link up somewhere on here of someone elses needles on you tube.. but i'd say the video won't do them justice, as the photos dont capture just how vibrant they really are, not too bright for the eyes, but nice and sharp..

And I found my stock head unit, so I will be looking into getting you (Phreddy) to do your thing on it to match, but when i put it in the garage, i wasnt intending on ever using it again, and wasnt to careful with it, it now has a few little scratches on the face plate, (luckily the buttons are fine) im thinking ill see if i can get some paint mixed up to spray it.. have you had anything to do with the paint?? with your little buttons? is it possible.. or the colour code if there is one?

EDIT: there you go cewing has those links..
Nahh i dont have footage yet of them..

    Hey goofyduude,

They look shmick hey! I love em - I drive with the parkers on during the day just to look at them!!

Pretty resonable IMO, for the amount of work and R&D involved in it, Greg AKA Phreddy prefers it if we don't discuss prices on the open forum, (I think??) mainly I think because he looks after us Just Commodores guys a bit, and every dash is different - with the amount of LED's that need to be done like if its an Auto/Manual, if you have an aftermarket stereo or stock one, Ute/ Sedan etc etc...

You can either message the man himself, and be patient in waiting for a reply!! he's busy as, make sure you include, what you need to light up - want done, or go onto his website, 'ASR Audio and Electronics' I think, (you can find the link in his sponser section at the top of the main page) and get a rough idea - those prices are public prices, as I said before he looks after us J/C guys a bit!

He also does the Aux input audio - for your MP3 players, and low level outputs for your amplifiers - a really good combo to the stock head unit.. I have it all done.. well worth it a really nice sound and the ability to play MP3/Ipods etc.. with the look of the stock dash unit.. you can find info on all these n his sponser section..

Goodluck with whatever you choose mate..
    Take it easy.

    well im impressed.
can this be done to a VX or is it limited to certain models only?

if i sent a cluster, could you do your magic and send it back or do you need it with the car?

    Hey davway..

Yeah Im pretty sure Phreddy can do the VT/VX models, he was just getting them down to a fine art recently... trying to perfect the Install Kit, before announcing it, I think he has it sorted now...

And YES.. Greg also does do 'mail order' installs!! you can post it to him, he will complete the job that evening.. test it.. and post it back the following day...

The only thing with that is you will still have all of the other green lights on the dash controls.. ignition ring, heater controls, headlight switch, trip computer controls, stereo, etc... etc...

But you can buy a kit for the rest, or might be able to pull out all of the electronic boards/switches that need work done and post them down with it too, might take a day longer - depending on how busy he is... which he is probly extremely busy atm, but worth having a chat with the man himself..

If you havent come accross it yet check out the asr audio website, theres a link to it in every post made by Phreddy, and should have his email address... That will give you an idea on the pricing/kits and pretty much everything you need to know...

Drop the man an email/PM or both, lol, he will help you out..

    Goodluck with it mate..

    thanks for the info.
those needles are a must have in any car!!
more than happy to send any and all components that can be changed and the time frame isnt a problem - the joys of owning 3 cars.
might send him a PM and have a chat about it anyway.
Thanks again and enjoy those needles!

Spoke to Greg (Phreddy) on Monday, he advised me that he's pretty close to being able to do mail order VT-VX dash's.

We also confirmed that the colour morph needles CANNOT be done on the VT/VX dashes...

I can also add as it stands with no modifications the only 1 that can do the needle morf is the speedo needle but time hasnt really been spent on doin the needle morf 4 the VT/VX as there hasnt really been any insterest, not on my behalf neways but if i or Greg can get our hands on a couple more difuser panels 2 do the tests on anything is possible.
