    Default Orion D5000 v. Hifonic BXI2608

    Hi,

I'm interested in getting a Orion HCCA15.2 subby. They have replacement cones so thats a good thing. I was wondering which amp would be a better choice.. I see most people with the D5000 but reason is I've got the BXI2608.. my gf is taking my old sub off me so I might be able to give her that amp aswell ... she was going to get the BXI2610 instead. So I'll have to give her some money to make up the difference.

The price of a new BXI2610 is $711 while the D5000 is $953. So there is a price difference. I was wondering which you guys would go for?

Ok, funds are a bit low.
Would a Hifonic BXI2608 be powerful enough to power the Orion HCCA15.2?
    In ratings... 2608 is 2600x1 at 1ohm

Could someone please let me know which they think would be better suited for the particular sub.

    Orion HCCA 15.2

These SPL woofers are most impressive. Orion HCCA subwoofers might possibly be the baddest subs on the planet. Hands down. With its massive 4" high temp voice coil and immense motor, this subwoofer can reach as much as a 4" excursion. A higher excursion equals more bass! Orion HCCA subs have a long history of competition dating back 8-years or more. Why are they so efficient? Why are there so many positive reviews?

Orion made these subwoofers with extreme quality control. They listened to the SPL crowd and dished out a high powered durable subwoofer that can handle its own weight in a match. To keep your sub going Orion offers a field replaceable cone kit so your never out of the game. Everything on this woofer is enhanced from its voice coil cooling system to the conex spiders. This sub will take whatever you throw at it and trust us, it is power hungry.

The main differences i can see just by going off the specs are:

    * Orion amp dosent have a subsonic filter, whereas the Hifonics does.
    * The Orion amp quotes THD whereas the Hifonics dosent.
    * The Hifonics amp has almost double the S/N ratio of the Orion.
    * The Hifonics amp has 24db/oct. LPF and subsonic filters, the Orion has 18db/oct. LPF only.
    * The Hifonics amp comes with a remote bass level controller, the Orion dosent (if that matters).

The Hifonics is also considerably smaller too (length wise).

Yep the Hifonics is better on paper, and is cheaper . In reality theres not too much difference in between the two, except what ive pointed out above. Power-wise there basically the same.

    Hope this helps

I thought about typing all that, but then realised he's just going to import and bypass local business

    Hi Thanks for that!
What's the subsonic filters do? from the LPF the orion would be better but not sure what the subsonic filters are for.
S/N ratio ... is higher better or worse? I thought lower is better?
I'll try to find out about the THD for the Hifonic.

I currently own the 2608 version, it seems to go alright. When I read about the HCCA subwoofer ... everyone's using the Orion D5000 amp for it.

Subsonic filters are a very low based high pass filter......designed to cut the extra low frequenices (10-25hz typically), this just acts as a "safeguard" for your subwoofer/s.

A higher signal to noise ratio i am led to beleive is better? but i may have got that around the wrong way.

    According to Wiki
In general, higher signal to noise is better; the signal is 'cleaner'.
