I am just after some advice on price. My local Autobarn are selling Optima Yellow Top batteries for $429, do people think this is a reasonable price?
I would like to call around to other places, but I don't know of anyone else in south australia that sell them, and checking the dealers section on Optima's webpage shows dealers that are on the other side of the city, not really viable to go there. It doesn't list my local Autobarn, which makes me think there are other dealers around Adelaide..
Does anyone know anywhere else that sells them i the southern suburbs in south australia?
Cheers
Denno
I paid $360 from my local auto elec, so try your local ones.
Yellowtops are a good investment as they will last longer than you car, and can be put in your new car. I think $380 is a reasonable price (if you are talking about a D34), but in vic it might be different? Do you have beaurepairs in SA? they sell optima for the cop cars that need to be done. Also have you tried battery shop they usually have them?
-Smit
Yeah there are Beaurepairs in SA, didn't even think that they might sell them :S. I'm not exactly sure the type that Autobarn sell... Typical though, I'm glad I asked cuz from experience Autobarn do tend to up the price a little more than other shops lol.
Just rang Beaurepairs and they only sell Century batteries.. The guy suggested to call Battery World though so I'm doing that right now.
Woah, I thought Autobarn over charged, Battery World -> $475 yikes! lol
Try a car audio place? also not sure on the optima product range but i think the D35 is the newer one.
edit: was thinking of the D51, D35 doesn't exist. lol.

yellow top is recommended for running an audio system, correct?

The VZ is here! About time!
Ok well there are like 4 different yellow top batteries (I just looked on the car toys website Car Toys - High Performance Parts). I'm guessing the more expensive the better right? But I just want to better understand each one. I have a decent sound system in my car (nothing huge, but decent), and I just want to be able to play my system up loud, with subs blaring etc, without the car having to be on. Will the whole yellow top range give me this ability? Do you SMIT, or anyone else know the difference between all the types? (of yellow tops).
Thanks
No, YellowTop is YellowTop... They just come in different physical sizes. Obviously with physical size, the capacity might change slightly. D34 fits a Commodore perfectly.
BlueTop is the same capacity and size as a YellowTop but with an extra set of terminals. D34 Blue specs.
Ohh, thanks for clearing that up StoneX, makes it much easier.
I think if you run the Blue Top for car audio purposes the battery wont be covered under warranty? Well thats just what ive been told.
You should be able to buy a YT for under $400, i was looking on a site a few weeks ago and they advertised the D34 YT for $380 or something. I'll have a dig and see if i can find the link, they provide postage too![]()

That'd be great holdenboy, thanks

Not too sure whether the sale is still on....$340 for a D34 YT isnt too bad though
I paid $575 for my D31, was pissed off to see these guys had them for $444.

Why did you go for a D31 holdenboy? and thanks for the link
No worries, i went for the D31 because it was the biggest Optima make, and i was after as much power as possible (dedicated SPL system). It dosent fit in the stock location of my VR, its up the back...heres a piccy![]()

Ahk sweet. Well I reckon my system will be just fine with a D34. I really want it to fit into the stock location too lol. Thanks for the help

Yep the D34s are a strong battery, theres not that much in between the D34 and the D31....its just i needed every little bit of power i could get. Ive still gotta buy a D34 for the front of my car, post back here if they still have that special on![]()

holdenboy... Is your D31 isolated from the front battery?
Nope, no isolation, no fuses....fuses add resistance (small, but still adds). I only connect the D31 to the rest of the system when testing or competing.

Holdenboy I just had a completely random thought pop into my head. What you need to do with your port is make one that looks like a huge exhaust cannon and to also put electronic boot struts on your wagon. So next time some ricer is behind your car you can flick the switch and go 'Mines Bigger' then blast thier ears off.
Sorry just having desert and having a suger rush.![]()

I don't think I'm going to get it from your suggestion sorry mate. They're in NSW, and even if they did post, the battery is darn heavy, so postage cost would be through the roof. I think I'd just be better off going to autobarn, they've got the best price that I can find so far, so I'll most probably go in there next time I've got a change and pick one up.
Thanks for all the help though, especially clearing up the difference, well lack there of, between each YellowTop.
Thanks
