hey guys... i have a VT commodore and am wanting to put some good speakers into it... but i am not 100% sure on what i want.
I deffinetly want to put splits in the front coz i frof for tweeters![]()
I dont know weather to replace the speakers in the back door or get 6X9s put in the parcel shelf or both!! but i also want to get a sub an i have been told that it is stupid to put 6X9s and a sub in your car.... i will be gettin a pro to fit it as well.
Ohh and also, i was thinkig of going with a brands like kicker and clarion. just to be diffrent![]()
who ever told you it would be stupid to run 6x9's and a sub, is bang on
6x9's will give you a slight bass if thats what your looking for but as soon as the cars in motion you'll loose it
better off to get a sub as the bass will still be noticeable while your moving
no point in having both as theyre air movement (that carries the sound) will pretty much counteract each other
best bet is what ive done with mine and take out the 6x9 holes in my parcel shelf covered them with factory mesh plating so the sound from the amp in my boot comes through
as for splits try checking out boston speakers
yeh dont get 6x9's if ur gettin a sub man.run splits front and back, will sound mint trust me.go with either soundstream, kicker or focal.u wont b dissapointed man.
6x9's wont "loose" base as you drive away if their installed correctly, that will happen to any thing including the sub if not installed right. and it dosnt dissapare more be drowned out by roadnoise and vibrations interfearing with the speakers,
however IMO 6x9's tend to sound rather average no matter what brand... They have their place but if your installing a sub then they are not necessary, Generaly i would advise a good set of splits in the front, good set of splits or 2ways (2ways are normaly fine for the rear) in the back and a good sub with quality amps...
When it comes to the brand, dont pick something cause you have heard of it before. Go and get the shop to let you hear them first. My preference is Morel and MBQuat, my best friend prefers his Alpine tyre R's, my prefered sub is an Xtant hex, (however im running at 8" rockford fosgate in my MX5 and thats quite nice to) so go and have a listen and choose what you like.
Cheers.
Too many brand names being thrown around i think. Brand means nothing overall. My current set up consist's of 7 different brands. Each component being chosen based on it's price and performance.
People who rant on about how they have a full (insert brand) setup are the type of people you see walking around dressed from top to bottom in Nike or Adiddas![]()
hey thanx for the replies blokes. very appreciated.
So the best bet would go splits front and rear with a good quality sub in the boot and just amp the whole lot then...
Splits arent really nessacary in the rear unless your really concerned about the listening of your rear passengers. I'd just put some baisc coaxial's in the factory holes, or even retain the factory speakers. If you keep your stock rears, this will also cut down your purchase and instalation cost, leaving you more to spend on your front stage. If your adding a sub, then it's not really nessacary to amplify your rear fill speakers, simply run them off your head unit..
yup yup gotcha. Buth then would it be worth connecting an amp to the front and rear speakers and getting a seperate amp for the sub ??
If you want to connect an amp to the front and rears, then you will be limiting yourself because now you have to buy a 4 channel, when only a 2 channel was nessacary. For the money you would now have to spend, getting a 4 channel, would have got you a really nice 2 channel, you properly drive your front splits. It's always reccomended if it's within your budget to get a seperate amp for your sub. A mono block amp, is what you'll be after ideally, and by using a seperate amp, you will have greater tuning options available to you, once it's all installed..
Ohh yup gotcha. So just run the rear speakers off the headunit and get a nice 2 way amp to charge the front splits an a mono to pump the sub.
Cheers mate.
haha i dont wanna send myself broke mate! haha i was jus thinking running splits up the front run by a good quality 2 way amp, then some half decent speakers put in the back door run off the headunit itself then a good mono block amp running a the sub.
HAHA yea thats what i was thinking!! haha
hey cheers mate.
I'm just about to upgrade my system in my VT as well,
Here's what i'm doing
JVC DVD head unit (3.5" screen on the unit - not the 7 inch motorized ones)
Clarion SRP1620M 6" splits in the front
Clarion SRQ1630R in the rear doors
2 x Clarion 12" subs in box in boot
2 x Clarion VMA5069 5.8" DVD headrest monitors mounted in the headrests
1 x Clarion APX4241 400w 4 channel amp to run the front and rear door speakers
1 x 900w amp running the two subs
1 x ipod cable to run the ipod through the headunit and be able to control the ipod from the headunit - and charge
All up, around the 2k mark.
Not by any means a top end set up, but nice, clean, crisp clear sound all round - which is what I was aiming for.
hey what do they charge you for the moniters in the headrest mate ??
More than what there worth mate, wink-wink-
haha fair enough.
Actually not really,
Mine where $245 each i think. I have a purpose for them though with a 5 year old daughter that often takes long trips with me, so it's not just for looks.
For around $500 for both, and being Clarion's, I thought they where reasonably priced as an upgrade. I'll fit them myself as that's the part that usually comes close to doubling the cost.
lol, I agree 100% with you there.
And no, you didn't offend me at all.
