I recently bought some type S alpine speakers for my VT commodore. i bought a set for the front and a set for the rear (front set have tweeters) and the fronts are 240 watt- 80 watt RMS and the rears are the same. What i want to know is a good amp to run theses speakers...?? I Have a kenwwod headunit and i also want to eventually buy a mono block amp and a sub. Help ??
It just comes down to your budget, and if you have any brand preferences. It's very much up to personal preference. The best thing you can do is set a budget, and then find a 4 channel amp, or if you want two amps, two 2 channel amps, but I think a 4-channel will do. Just match up power ratings. The power rating of the amp can be a little higher as you can always turn down the gains, but don't get one that's too much higher.
well i pretty much have no budget. hahaha whatever floats my boat. haha but i ALSO have 350 watt pioneer 6X9s wich my brothe in law gave me... and was wondering if its worthwhile setting them up in the parcel shelf ??
No.
Buy a 2 channel amplifier with around 100wrms per channel and just power the front splits off this amp. Power the rear speakers off the head-unit.
Brand is up to you and your budget. The only real difference in between brands are power ratings and cosmetics. The other differences are minimial and shouldnt make too much of a difference to you. Anything from Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion etc etc will be fine, just not one of those cheap Ebay amps
Edit: No i wouldnt worry about the 6x9s, you want 80%+ of the sound coming from the front, not from the rear. Keep it simple and you'll be right.
150db in a commodore =
yup so something like this Ryda Car Audio - Kicker ZX200.2 ZX 2 Channel Amplifier($210.45) ??
that amp would be perfect
sweet as. cheers mate
by the way what is RMS ??
Yep thats a decent choice. RMS basically means what the amp can produce all day everyday, as opposed to "max" or "pmpo".
Generally if a manufacturer dosent give "rms" ratings then its a smart move to stay away from that item. Quoting peak and rms values is fine though.
150db in a commodore =
will that AMP be enough tho ?? or do i want something with a bit more ?? Its only 200watt... should i try to find a 350watt amp ??
I am running 6.5in Type-s's off 2 channels of a Schneider 4ch 800W max amp that i found for cheap.
I haven't been able to find RMS values fr it per channel, but I'd say it would be around 100wrms. As long as you aren't running the amp flat out it doesn't matter if it is a bit over powered

ohh yup rito. Yea i have another set of Type S speakers for the rear doors but have been advised they will be fine running off the headunit.
How did you go about the pods ?? I was advised that it can be done with some 6 1/2 spacers but am not sure how to connect the to the doors ??

you won't need pods. I have fitted DD splits in the rear of my commodore before and they where 6 1/2" with a 4kg magnet, they had a mounting depth of something like 120mm . So just take of the back door get the plastic cover and cut the half piece that protects is from what ever is inside the door. and mount the speaker on there with 5cm screws and put it back on and walla your all done
ahhh true ?? alright ill pull the panel off one of the rear doors tomorrow and see what i can brakehaha cheers mate.
ahh yup rito that would be great mate. ill post asap.
All done matefound it a breeze. I was just looking up Amps ounce again and come up with a clarion 2-way amp, and a fusion 2-way amp. they are both identical outputs and maxx watt and there isnt much price between them.... which would you prefer ??
I would say Fusion, there higher end audio gear like the reactor amps are great value for money.
