Hi guys, ive been searching the net for an answer to my question but it was eather futile - My question is: how do you remove the door skins/panels on an 02 VU commodore? I have one broken speaker cover (passenger side) and wish to replace the OE door speakers ( am not keen on touching the dash mounted ones). Any help on my issue would be ausome/
P.s is there an aftermarket VU workshop manual?
If you need the info in book form then just buy a VT-VX service manual.
Most of it is the same anyway.
to remove the doorskins:
there is a screw holding the handle on (the one you use to open the door). you will need something pointy to pry out the plastic cover.
there is also a screw behind that handle on a little tab.
on the door lock there is a red bit when its up - use a compass or needle to pry that out.
once its out a little bit the whole knob will lift up.
there is also a screw behind that on a little tab.
around the outside edge of the door trim there are screws on each side and the base.
if you have electric windows then that is it - on the drivers side you would need to unplug the mirror switch once you lift the trim off a little bit.
if you have wind up windows, either use a rag or get the proper tool to remove the winder handle.
if you slip the rag/tool up behind the length of the handle there is a clip that needs to be pushed out to release the handle.
Thats it.
Cheers Davway - I know that once i've done these speakers i'll probably want to go all out with sub/amp etc...lol
oh yeah, the speaker grills.
they're just round clips holding them on (dont think there are any screws).
once the round clips are removed, they will need replacing.
best way to put the new ones on it to just get them on the plastic stalk so they hold themselves and then find a small socket that neatly fits on the round clips and tap it down gently with a hammer.
removing them is up to you - snap them off, pry them off, doesnt matter as the whole speaker cover is going in the bin anyway.
