    Default Speakers install

Hey guys im looking at installing some 6x9s in my parcel shelf. I have a VX Series 1. i dont want to use the back door speakers either cause i dont wanna get an amp. My question is will the wiring be long enough to reach to the parcel shelf or do i need to connect more to make the distance. if I have to connect more wiring is there a connector I can use rather than soldering wires. cheers guys

Just some advice, you say you dont want to use the stock rear speakers because you dont want to get an amp? Why do you want 6x9's on the rear shelf then? You wont have a noticible audible difference, because the source of the sound is remaining unchanged. And no the wire form the rear door speakers, wont reach up to the parcel shelf. You will need to connect extra wire, either where it ends at the factory speakers, or at the wiring harness.

The reason you wont notice an improvement, or much of an improvement, is lets say, you factory stereo puts out 10W rms per channel ( per speaker) even if you were to swap your standard speakers for a pair of $500 speakers, they will still only be getting the same amount of power, and will be limited to the same tuning capabilities of the factory head unit.

Also, when looking to upgrade your speakers for better sound, the focus should be on the front speakers, not on the rear. By installing better speakers in the rear, your drawing the sound stage away from yourself.

With aftermarket speakers running off the stock headunit, you will notice crisper cleaner sound though, depending how good the speakers are of course.
But as you said, definately upgrade the fronts first, and don't just get 6x9's coz thats what all the cool kids are doing, actually listen to a few speakers and see what suits your needs best

I changed my stock speakers out and it DOES make a massive difference. My stock speakers were all dual cone paper woofers with no tweets.

Replace your fronts with something good and you will be much better off IMO. You gain alot of clarity and don't need to go cutting your parcel shelf etc.

Without amping the 6x9 you will not really get much more bass, only crisper mids and more highs as philthy said. Just replace your door speakers and it's fine.

Also listen to a car with 6x9 in the back as some people don't like the staging coming from the back of the car and some find the highs reflected straight off the glass to be harsh.

Kinda reiterating but thought I'd put in my 2 cents as I went through this process ages ago. In all honesty look into a small amp if you can. I originally wanted no amps and the same setup as you. Amped 6x9s helped but if you get 1 small sub it is much better IMO.

You will get better sound from a new set of speakers, but bang for buck, its not a good investment.
I've seen on many occasions people putting decent 6x9's into there standard stereo and their stereo getting quiter, if the speakers want say a minimum of 15wrms, and u give them 10wrms, they r gonna be quiet.
Chances are you'll change your mind and goto an amp witha sub and all that eventually.
If you are thinking about audio upgrades, no matter how small, you'll end up with a full system. Its economical to do it once, and do it right. Not do it 4 times to end up with one system.
My first car i started with a head unit, some cheap kicker 2 ways in the front, and some panasonic 6x9's in the rear. That then went to the same setup with a boss amp and twin boss 12" subs.
I then changed headunit, from boss to jvc, from the kicker 2 ways, to focal 6.5" splits, went to pioneer 4 way 6x9's (only cause i'd already cut the holes and had the parcel shelf to suit), 4x50wrms jaycar response amp, 1 x 780wrms jaycar monoblock amp, and twin MTX 12" subs.
If you think that even a long while down the track you might change your mind and get an amp and all that, then don't bother with these intermediate upgrades, they just end up costing money in the long run.
    Sorry for the novel.

Oh and to answer you're question, Nah the wires won't reach. You can get crimp connectors from any auto shop, where u just strip the wire back, on either side, slot them into the connector, and crush them with a crimper or pliers. If it was my car, i'd solder, as these things tend to come loose when u least expect/want them too.
