    Default VX Audio system

    gday fellas,
ive got a VX lumina only just bought it and loving every bit of having a car and being able to drive around

im a complete novice at all this audio stuff, ive been looking around a for headunits and speakers and all and looking at the threads online and ive run into a few problems....money isnt the biggest of problems but i dont know what i should do:

    1. i want to upgrade my headunit to an aftermarket one and i wondered if you could still use the controls on the steering wheel? and if not can you remove these easily enough and be able to put them back on?

    2. I defiantly want to upgrade my speakers, does anyone know what speakers are in there as in size wise and what might fit in the 4 doors, and i also noticed there are two cutouts above the headrests in the back that could be used for speakers, what would fit these?

in the end ill probs head down to JB HI FI or something and get some help with it all but if anyone could help me out before hand it would be appreciated!
im thinking about going with: headunit, sub in the back (not next to the gas tank) , speakers in the front doors and some in the back and leave the back door ones standard but i dont know

hope you guys can help a brother out

Yeah you can get your steering controls to work but it will cost about $200 to get to work. The speaker size in both dooors you can get is 6 1/2 in the front and rear doors. If you are referring to the cutouts behind the headrest they will be for 6x9's. If you are planning on gettin subs forget about those as they are a waste of time

i think some people have modified the controls on the wheel so they still work but i wouldnt bother personally

doors take 6"s you can fit 6.5" with some modifying

in the parcel shelf in the rear youll fit 6x9s

i run a dvd playing and 6" kickers in the front doors and made some 7x10s fit in the parcel shelf also added some tweeters to the front for a bit better clarity

and thats plenty loud enough and fairly cheap for good sound,,

headunit was 300all up off ebay
    fronts where 150
tweeters came in a splits set but are about 100 for a good set
the 7x10s where over 300 but good 6x9s are around 200 bucks
i run them of a 2 channel amp that was 150
and a sub an amp thats about 400 including amp etc

cheap setup that sounds great an does everything

playstation, tv, pictures off a memory car.. everything baha

i run a good set of 7x10s and the difference without them is massive
a good set gives good mid range right into super clear high sounds

it equals out the sound throughout the car to

A lot of people get a bit hung up on rear fill - I'm not big on it personally, I only have 2 ears, so having four speakers only opens the door to phase cancellation issues. That said, back seat passengers tend to appreciate it, and if you don't have a sub, they're useful for providing bass reinforcement.

IMHO, if you plan to get a sub, spend your money on decent front splits and the sub, and leave the rear speakers stock - just turn them down somewhat.

agreed, no need for rears at all, I only have my front splits and a sub running and I have never had a passenger complain. They can still hear the fronts, plus why spend money on something which is primarily for people who didnt pay for your system.
