Planning on throwing my old amp/sub setup into the vr,
had it installed in the 240 behind the seat, the amp generates a fair bit of heat (completely covered in heatsink) and the sub's a 15" so it takes a bit of space had them mounted on a slab of wood to reduce vibration , good airflow.
I dont have that option in the VR, got a massive LPG tank there instead, my mates reckon putting the sub in a box in the boot, and putting the amp under a seat or something but it seems like a bad idea doing that as not enough airflow to cool it etc.
Subwoofer is just normal size pioneer 15" and the amp is about 45x30cm, ideas on best places to mount them?
The sub box idea sounds good but putting it in the boot with an lpg tank in the way seems like it will defeat its purpose.
Since the rear seats dont fold down then mounting it there is out of the question, so youve got two options. One is under the seat (but youre right, not good airflow) or in the boot somewhere, like the sub enclosure itself.
The LPG tank will restrict bass going through into the cabin abit, but should still sound OK. Mounting the sub in a box either firing towards the tailights or up towards the bootlid is the best.

previous owner fitted the amp to the rear seat (removing it, modding it to fit it in the back).
Would seem like a great space idea but i dont think 7.5cm clearance is enough space for the heatsink for a pioneer amp
I've seen setups in the past where people have made a false wall hiding the gas setup in the boot and mounted the amp to that. the sub could go opposite the spare tyre, firing across the boot, but I'm not sure how that would sound with a gas tank. Would probably lose a fair bit of bootspace that way as well.
Thought of switching to a good 10" sub in a sealed box to save room?

the sub will only work well if it has the front surface completely sealed from the rear area. other wise the sub just flaps around not making any doof doof.
I recomend getting theamp put on a plate mounted usually on the drivers rear quarter panel section in the boot. get a pre fab box for a 15" sub from a shop and have it facing upwards towards the bootlid and with a removable connection incase you want to remove it sometime for more boot space.
ok this will probably seem like a stupid idea, but im not a revhead, i come from building kickass gaming rigs.
the idea at this point is making a fake wall on the drivers side of the boot, having enough room for the amp with plenty of clearance, with plenty of air vents, fitting the amp to the other side of it, and just past the amp having a set of spare cooling fans from some spare pc's mounted there (just some silent ones) just to take care of the head, the magnetic field from the sub is direct front and direct rear, so mounting the sub diagonally in a sound box, fix that to the fake wall.

thoughts, suggestions?
i do not see any dramas with the way of mounting the amp behind the panel, only drama will be tuning it as some people play around with settings a lot. The sub mounted to the panel then firing foward from that corner will have a good sound but may get better loading if directed to the boot lid.
ok just got all my bits, gonna put it all together soon.
Just got amp and sub... subwoofer gonna make a box for, store it in side of boot, amp... havnt figured where thats going yet but prob side boot
Also have 2x sony spare speakers, thinking of putting them in as side speakers perhaps mounting on the passenger doors.
Dont think you'll have room in the rear doors mate, as the window winders take up most of the available area (assuming you havent got power windows).
Its common for people to think "the more speakers, the louder it'll be", but in reality this isnt the case, sounds get muddled up by other speakers and it ends up sounding crap!
Put more effort into upgrading the fronts mate, save up a few hundred a buy yourself a good set of component (split) speakers. Then save up some more and buy an amp for them.....dont even bother upgrading the rear speakers, once youve got good fronts you wont even hear the rears![]()

fronts are kevlar splits with tweets.
got pretty tempted to FIND room to put the spare set of sony's even if making some pods for them, mate has a mitsubishi with 6 speaker surround factory stock. surprisingly it sounds awesome.
Right now with just 4 speakers is a'ight.... sub will make it much better, previous owner reckons another set of speakers wont sound better, but after hearing the lancer 6 speaker surround i dunno, just the placement or something that would screw it up?
Most of the time the "6" speakers are like this:
2 x dash/door mounted tweeters
2 x front door mounted mids/woofers
2 x rear speakers.
So basically its just a 4 speaker stereo, with the fronts being component (split) speakers.
The Jaycar kevlars are ok for the money (i have them in the front of my VR too) but do lack midbass and the tweeters are a little bright (loud). But as i said for the money they are ok. They will play much louder and clearer being powered from an amp, i am powering them off a 150wrms x 2 amplifier and even it gets hot after a while.
If after youve installed the sub youre not happy, buy a 2 channel amplifier with around 80-100wrms per channel to power the front splits.

yeah i couldnt have put it better myself for the kevlars...
