Hey all just another stupid question to bore all you smart people out there,
Bought new splitz and an amp, (Hertz DSK165 and Clarion APX2121) installed woofers and tweeters in factory spots with small modification to door pods, installed the amp at the rear of the car, the bloke I bought them from at Autobarn assured me it would be fine to bridge the power (since running into the problem and researching for hours i realize i should get a distribution block), the remote wire and run the rca y plugs (have already got a amp and sub hooked up), both amps are powered up, sub is working but i cant hear anything out of the front splits, ran wiring as such;
Both tweeter and woofer have a crossover, as shown in quick start guide attached tweeter to woofer neg to neg pos to pos after crossovers, ran to amp LHS pos to pos neg to neg and same for RHS.
The only time I can hear anything at all out of them is when I change the output on the head unit from subwoofer to rear and that is very very minimal sound, usually i run the stereo at about 20 on the volume, had it at 30 faded fully to the front and only just hearing them, tried fiddling with the gain and the xover settings, made no difference. The noise I am hearing from the speakers sounds totally wrong not clear at all.
Any help would really be appreciated, I am stumped, I've wired up plenty of headunits and sub but never amped speakers, thought it would be a very basic task of LHS pos to pos neg to neg and same on RHS.
Thanks![]()
Anyone? Please![]()
What headunit are you using?
Do you only have one RCA out on the back of the headunit, and then Y splitters down the line going to each amp?
The headunit may have a LPF set for the sub-out or something similar
Just double checking your speaker wiring - you have the + and - going from the amp + and - to the crossovers, then the tweeter out on the crossover going to the tweeters, and woofer outs going to the woofers?

Ive got JVC KD-R506, yes only 1 set of RCAs out then using splitters at the end of the rca leads into each amp, on the HU like i said before i can change L/O from rear to subwoofer, it was set to subwoofer but i changed it to rear like above i can hear the them on rear output if i fade it fully to the front and turn it up very loud but still doesnt sound right, not clear at all or anywhere near as loud as it should be at that volume.
Yep on the speakers from the amp have both side + and - running down the side of the car going to the joined wired from the tweeter and the woofer, the tweeters and woofers both have crossovers and followed the instructions on the hertz quick start guide, so im nearlly 100% positive they are wired correctly

You will have to have the headunit output set to "rear" to give the full-range output. When it is set to subwoofer, it almost certainly only sends the low frequencies to the amp.
So when it is set to "rear", it thinks the amp is powering your rear speakers, so it will have to be faded to the rear to hear your splits.
If you still want some control over the fader, wire your rear speakers to the front speaker wires from the headunit and use the fader in reverse.
Ideally though, get rid of that headunit and get one with at least 2 sets of preouts so you can run your sub amp off one set, and speaker amp off another. I've never amped speakers off a headunit with a single set of rca outs so I'm not sure what other problems you might run into.
Also, running the speaker amp off the single rca wire from the headunit, you are only getting a mono (either left or right) signal, then distributing it between both speakers. So if the music you listen to has a lot of left-right panning you will only be hearing half of it from the front

So how is your power connected up? Have you daisy chained them, or have you used a distro block?
If you have daisy chained them, it is possible that amp 2 cannot get enough power because amp 1 is taking it all up.

I had kind of the same idea Phillty, I said to the bloke at autobarn how can it work they are totally different i was bass from one and treble from another, he assured me he had his hooked up exactly the same and his was competition quality, i think hes talking out his arse thinks ill believe him just xos im female lol, I've only just bought the head unit I did give it some consideration not sure yet... want good sound thou so sick of average sound systems, gotta fork out money on getting in lowered first front strut is gone.
Think I might look into another head unit get a double din DVD, then I can have more music on 1 disc just sell off the old one - not worth the trouble stuffing about to get an average sounding stereo Thanks
Arrow ? yeah just daisy at the moment thou I think when I get some time maybe thursday or friday ill get a distribution block, i have read plenty about stereos and seems to be the way to go using 1 power wire on mulitple amps, maybe thats an issue too Thanks![]()
