let me set the scene, 4 weeks ago one week before i left on holiday, stereo working mint! bit of altinator whine but i installed one of them fancy noise reducer things which mostly fixt the problem, planned to install another one to make it perfect, stereo worked mint for a full week brilliant!!! yay very happy!
3 weeks ago the night before the holiday, locked the car in parents garage again all working good, no problems (had just driven for 2 hours up to auckland, and then a few more little trips arround auckland, again perfect)
next morning left for the holiday, 3 weeks in sunny hawaii
arrived back in nz this morning at 5am
looked forward to taking her for a spin, got in, stereo not working.... hmmmmm...
waited for an hour to see if it came right.... nothing...
took apart consol (ive done this so many times i can do it with my eyes closed)
had a look round, couldnt see anything, checked fuses under dash all fine, checked wiring all look good, checked 10amp fuse in the back of the stereo, it had blowen, quick trip to repco, replaced fuse, bang, it blew as soon as i connected the clip harness thing, replaced the fuse with a fresh one, tried again, another way, bang, figured it could be the noise reducer, removed it from system, replaced fuse and.... bang, still blowing, yelled at stereo and threatened violence and severe punishment ppon it, replaced fuse, bang, abuse didnt work, nothing has worked!!!!!
ok time to get serious, any ideas on what it could be?
im at my olds house and only have a basic toolkit, my better tools are at home in rotorua, however! here is some info
the stereo is earthed directly to the batt. to a gold plated adapter thing specially for car audio (my gauges are wired to the same bracket and are working fine) the fuse seems to blow whether i have it earthing on the batt or on the car,
i havent noticed any sparks or signs of a short any where in the wiring assembly
i used the old mans multi meter to take some readings of the power supply
(all of these readings were taken from the harness (removed from the stereo)
the constant power bat was reading 13-15 volts
the acc (on off power thing) read 0 when the car wasnt on and when key was turned to acc read 13-15volts
does anybody have any idea what it could be? ive blowen 8 fuses trying to get it to work
and yes im using the correct fuses (10 amp, red ones, from repco)
im at my wits end i have no idea why it could be happening, like i said 3 weeks ago it was sweet
btw sorry for the long post, i wanted to get all the info that i have to you in one go!
thanks in advance
cheers guys!!
btw
please please please help!

you dont turn a holden off
you power it down!
for any one who asks, holdens dont leak oil, there marking there territory
The head unit has probably gone faulty... That's what usually blows the fuse on the back of them.
Take the unit and wiring out of the car, connect the red and yellow together and connect this straight to the positive terminal of the battery, connect the black wire to the negative terminal. If it still blows fuses then its the head-unit, if it works then its the vehicles constant power / accessories wire shorting somewhere.

sweet, will do!
what do i do if its the head unit?
will sony cover repairs/replacement of it?
given that ive done nothing to cause it to do this?

probably not. most car audio gear i've seen stipulate in very small writing that warranty is void if not installed by a professional
