Default where to put tweeters in vs? and to dynomat?

    Hey,
Tomorrow i hope to get a set of These
Kevlar series 6-inch component speakers - Jaycar Electronics
but i was wondering the best place to install the tweeters on a vs ute?

also, is it worth dynomating? or that other shiny silver stuff? even just over the holes? Or is it a waste of money/Time/weight?
if i was gonna do it i would just do it in the doors, not under the carpet or anywhere else

also should i use new wire? or will the standard speaker wire be sufficiant?

    Thanks

    1. You have a few options with the tweeters, the most common is the stock location under the grilles on the dash (either croner near the windscreen) or the kick panels.

    2. Its probably not worth using sound deadening, as the Jaycar splits dont produce a whole heap of midbass. But definately look into sealing up the service holes with MDF etc.

    3. The stock wiring will be fine. Are you planning on running them off the head-unit?

Stock location? I thought they only had 6" in the door, no tweeters? and grills in the dash? Could you please provide a picture?

Ok thanks mate, could you please link me to a guide that would show how to do this

Yeah mate im goin to be running them straight from the head unit, no sub for the speakers.

The splitter, if thats the right name for it??
The wire coming from the head unit is the front speaker wires.
The way to wire your splits if you can understand it lol.

    uh k thanks,

so the splitter just sends the different frequencies to the different components?
so it makes sure mids go to speakers, and high frequency sounds go to tweeters?

Correct. And its called a "crossover".
The left hand circle on vs-utes pic is where the stock tweeters, up there at the base of the A pillars.
If you have a look up there you will see a couple screws in the windscreen vents that let you pull that little trim peice off and get to them.

Oh, and if you are getting splits, then you will be able to run the stock wiring to the crossover input, but would will need to run new wires from the crossover to the woofer and tweeter.
Depending on the size of the Jaycar crossovers you have a few different mounting options for them as well, and if they are small enough you might fit them behind the door trim out of the way

EDIT: and I agree on not bothering with dynamatting the doors or anything unless you plan on running them off an amp one day

Nah you can use the stock wiring for the input to the crossover and the wiring for the crossover to the woofer in the door.

In the picture above you'll see the side panel of the dash, with two vents that join with the door vents. Theres a couple of screws in those vents and one down the bottom of the dash. Undo these and that panel will come out. Theres a cool little area in there to put the crossover, you can also access the stock speaker wiring here too, you'll see either dark green / light green or tan / grey wires (depending on which side youre working on) in there. Cut these wires, the pair that goes into the door connects to the woofer input of the crossover, the other pair connects to the input of the crossover. Then just mount your tweeter and run the wires to the crossover too (if youre putting them in the stock location then just feed the wires down and into the cavity).

If it dosent make sense, let me know

Put the crossovers in that little area on each side of the dash, theres plenty of room in there (i have the exact same splits and my crossovers are in there). Just cable tie them to a wiring loom etc.

hey bloke, i've got the same splits as you in my VS.
If you pull off the glovebox, there's a plastic shelf thing behind there that the left-hand crossover sits perfectly on. From there you can easily run the wires through the grommet in the door and to where ever you choose to put the tweeters. There's also a plastic shelf below the fuse cover on the drivers side you can use for the right hand crossover.
    Good luck with it

    hey dude,
Depending on whether or not you have electric mirrors, you can run the tweeters in the location where the mirror adjuster would normally be, just poke out the factory circle panel and run your wiring to that point and use some good double sided tape to hold the tweeters up. Thats what I have done Works well.

I am also planning on getting some splits for my VS Ute. Could you mount the twitters on that ledge behind the seats (infront of the rear windscreen?
Thats where i was always planning on putting them.

No point running these splits off the head unit mate. Your head unit will put out max 20w (if it is alpine, 15w for most others) rms per channel, and these splits need 60w rms per channel to drive them. There will be no gain in using them without an amp. You will be more satisfied if you amp them. Your factory 15w rms speakers will put out more volume.
I have been looking at the exact same splits myself, very nice speakers you will be happy with them, after you amp them
I too am looking at where to put the tweeters, I think the factory location will be ok on my vz, might be a tight sqeeze on the vs though, with a dashmat on you could afford to break the crappy little grill that covers the factory tweeter right off and just mount your new tweeter under the dashmat, no one will ever know.

for the one on the right ude have to drill a hole, or run the wire down the window to get in the door and then go through the gromit.

i put mine where the one on the left is. looks way better imo. theres a lil hole leading under the dash, thats where i ran my wire

Hey Razor, how do your speakers perform running off the head unit mate? Are they loud enough, like when you are driving along. Do you feel the need for an amp?

well im still on me L's so i havnt got me ute registered yet mate,
they do seem loud and clear, but i have a expensive monoblock amp and new sub and headunit, so i figured i mayas well chip in an extra $100 for a clarion amp, so thats in the post ATM,
ill let you know how it goes..

Yer mate this was the first time i had done anythin like this too, and i was on my own..
just keep pushi through it, speaker goes to split, tweete goes to split split goes to headunit...
hardest part is routing the wiring and splits....
