i have a vk commodore and i want a sound system in it with 2 12" subs and amps to suit, 4 6" speakers with splits, a pioneer 7" double din head unit and possibly 2 screens on the front headrests. what would be the best hardware for this on a budget. the 2 headreas screens arent needed but still wanted
thanks
hey mate, ur best bet is to start off with what u can afford. if u can deal with ur current headunit, start with a set of splits or component speakers (same thing differnet names) go into a couple of stores with the sound boards, and have a listen to the different sets and choose a set that u like the sounds of. if u can find a poineer double din unit, use it to power the speakers so u know how the speakers sound thru it, trying different amps n speakers, and subs. sometimes they do sound difernet thru different headunits.
buy bits buy bits as u can afford them, that way u can build a decent system, on a budget. u'll know from the soundboards what prices and if they can do a deal if ubuy 2 pieces.
I think you of in LaLa land, and need to do a bit of research, and get to know a little bit about the products that your interested in..Why are you already set on 2 x 12's, and four 6 inch speakers? and by with tweeters,as you reffered to them, as a component, they are called splits. (the tweeter is seperate "split" from the woofer) Also, where do you plan to mount the second set? No good putting a set in the rear, you'll have too much difficulty mounting the tweeters in a way that won't have a negative effect on the soundstage.
I've said this many times before, 2 sub's, are nessacarily better than one. Yes you have the extra cone area, but "being on a budget" you will be limiting yourself as far as quality goes, when choosing the subs. Also lend a thought, to the extra cost associated with the instalation side,as far as wiring, enclosures ect go...Get yourself a good quality single sub, with a suitable amplifier.Choose an amplifier that provides more power than the sub/speaker is rated to. This will give you what is often reffered to, or described as headroom.
Also, i can't stress this enough, especially when your new to the car audio scene, don't get caught up with brand names. There's no gains to be had, by choosing all your components, from the same one manafactuer. People who do this, are only limiting themselves to the products available to them. Remember, audio is about listening, you should be least concerned about the apearance, or brand of a product.
Finally, being installed in a VK, and having a lack of factory installation locations, your audio gear will be on display for all to see. So if you haven't already, get yourself a bloody good alarm system.
Planning A System On A Budget
Have a read through this thread, and you might find a few good idea's, on a setup within your budget..
This sort of system.......on a budget?
For what you want your looking at:
H/U - $1000+
4 x 6" speakers (fronts are splits) - $300+
2 x 12" subwoofers (including box) - $400+
4ch amp + mono for the subs - $600+
So thats $2.5k minimum, including wiring but not installation, is that around the figure you were expecting to pay?
150db in a commodore =
Installing that in a vk I recommend seriously looking at buying an alarm, immobiliser, tinted windows, solex locks and possibly a full time security guard to protect it![]()
ok.. i already have a great alarm
