Hey,
This has probably been asked a bit before.
Im going for a speaker upgrade in my VN Calais.
I'm not too keen on the look of speakers attatched to the front doors when they aren't origionally there - as VN's came out with the front speakers in the top of the dash.
Just wondering if a simple replacement of speakers (rear parcel shelf and dashboard) gives a good enough, loud, clear sound (if anyone has done this) - or should i reconsider letting someone molest my door trims and install some speakers there.

Hey mate,
i used to have the 4inch speakers in my vl, they were really good pioneer coaxils and still sounded crap, though i believe you can get some 4inch splits which might be better, but i still think the 6inch in the door is the way to go. and running new speakers off a headunit will give better sound however they will still be recieving the same power as the previous speakers, so if your after great quality and loud you might want to look at running them off an amp. 4channel amps can be very cheap second hand.
Cheers buddy.
As sweefu said, ideally you want 6" speakers up front....depending on the interior colour the VR/S speaker pods dont look too bad once fitted. Plus you get pocket for stuff
It all depends on how loud and clear you want the sound to be. 4" speakers will have next to no bass/midbass output at higher volume levels, no matter how much you spend.
I think you should seriously look at either the VR/S door pods or getting some of the Aerpro fibreglass pods, then buy a decent set of 6-6.5" splits and set of 6" coaxials for the rear. Run them off the head-unit for now, just to see if thats enough volume etc. If not then look into buying an amplifier, something with 80-100wrms per channel is ideal.
