    Default Joining 4 gauge wire

Hey guys, whats the best way of joining 4 gauge wire, the one in my amp wiring kit is about 1 metre to short, because i have a manual commodore im going from the battery to the firewall across to the passengers side in the firewall back across to drivers side and up yo yhe boot, i did it this way as everybody said to run the amp power wire up the drivers side and because its a manual i cant get through the firewall on drivers side.
is it dodgey to join the 4gauge with another fuse? or should i just try solder them together?

    Cheers

If you plan to solder it, you'll need a mini blow torch at least. I had to do it that way and it was still a hassle. So much solder seeps up the cable and you end up with a solid length of wire either side of the join.

Why dont you run it down the passenger side and run the RCAs down the drivers side?

Might still be too short, but as StoneX said you'll need a mini blow torch to get enough heat into the cable, it melts the insulation about 5-6mm back on either side and you will end up with a solid section that wont bend.
Theres always these two....have used them before and they arent too bad, although i didnt trust the single peice of heatshrink so i added another two and some tape to be sure

Yeah depending where the join would sit, use a distribution block? I'd be avoiding soldering...
But as others have said, sounds like you're running cable where you don't need to. I think it'd be easier to create a new hole in the firewall somewhere on the drivers side, and avoid that extra few feet and having to join it.

I ran the power cable through the same hole that the bonnet release cable goes through on the drivers side.

    Hey mate.
I have a VT 1997 Manual man. I did the same as you by running it across to passenger and back, but then i found a gromet, that has other wires running through it, i just popped it out made a bigger hole and ran my 4 gauge wire through that, then popped it back in, It then should come out right behing the left shock tower (Looking from the front). Hard to see whole, i threaded it from inside to the outside, then around the fuse box and connect to the battery, then cable comes out in boot, to a distibutation block (1 X 4 Guage in To 2 X 8 Guage out), Then staright off to both my amps. With the power running down the drivers side, it runns consistant with all other power. then RCA leads are ran down passenger side, But do not run it straight from headunit to side then straight down rails, Run it on a diaganional from headunit to half way down the sills, ya wont notice it because the carpet is thick. Cant notice any in mine and i have 2 sets of RCA's. By running it on an angle it avoids the ECU which is in the corner kick panel. Make sure it is ran that way because when you go to run speakers you will get interfearance.

Stinger make power cable couplers for about $12 each which are allenkey screw type joiners. Infact, Im waiting on some 0ga ones right now!
