Just bought myself a new set of clarion tweeters and already pretty damn pissed. It seems like one of the tweeters gets a crackly sound every time i turn it up even the slightest bit, im guessing its blown but why i barley cranked it up. Anyone have suggestions to what it may be..? Might have to give clarion a call
You just bought the tweeters by themselves, or a component (splits) set with the midwoofer too?
If youve just got the tweeters themselves, youre using a crossover i assume?

I bought tweeters and 6" together, ripped out the stock tweeters from my VT and put in the new ones
OK so you got splits, youre using the crossovers right?

nah dude they're just connected to the stock tweeter wires which are connected to the doors speakers. Is that bad or...?
You will need to use the little crossovers that came with the speakers, most look like a small box and have 6 screw terminals on them to connect wires.
What speakers have you installed? brand, model number?
You will need to install these in the dash somewhere, they split the frequencies up so the woofer in the door plays the low/mid frequencies, and the tweeter plays the high frequencies. This is why the tweeter is distorting at the moment, its trying to play the whole frequency range (including bass) and obviously its not designed for that. Hopefully you havent damaged it.
If you look at the stock tweeter you will see a small cylinder shaped objest on the back of it, that little thing cuts out the lower frequencies so it only plays the high ones.
If you want a step by step guide, let me know.

Ok so this is whats happened, i didn't receive crossovers with the speakers but it did come with wires that have capacitors attached to them which im guessing is what i should have used, one of the wires says woofer on it.. They're clarion speakers (both tweeters and 6") , pretty decent just haven't installed them correctly. So what would i exactly need to do with these wires now caz so far i only have them connected to the stock tweeter wires (which is probably shit house)?? Thanks for the help man![]()
Alrighty, so youve got the crossovers by the sounds of it
I imagine the wires will have an "input", "woofer" and "tweeter" marked on each pair of wires.
Input goes to the amplifier or head-unit. If youre running an aftermarket amplifier then you'll need to connect the speaker wires coming out of this to the input of the crossover. If your running your splits (front speakers) off the head-unit and are using the standard wiring you'll need to cut the wires before they go into the door. You can access them by undoing the "side panels" of the dash, the little peices with vent holes in them that join the vents to the doors.
You'll see the wiring in there, look for a pair of wires, be it grey / tan or light green / dark green (depending on which side youre working on). Cut these wires in the middle.
Join the wires going into the door to the "woofer" wires on the crossover. Then join the other 2 wires to the "input" wires of the crosssover.
You will need to run your own wires for the tweeter, once youve got those top demister panels off and the dash side panels its fairly easy to run your own wires down each corner of the dash. Needless to say connect them to the tweeter wires on the crossover.
Any questions, just ask or pm me.

Ok so i think i've got what you mean.. I've just drawn up a quick sketch of what i think it should be just to clarify so i don't go wrong somewhere.
As you can see i've cut the speaker wire going into the door as you said and attached the two set of wires from the crossover
Sorry for the hassle dude but thanks once again, hopefully im close to correct.
Yes, thats 100% right![]()

Sweet! thanks a lot for the help man, ill tell you the outcome![]()
just one more quick question, how would you suggest i get the tweeter wires from the door to the dash?? And where the bloody hell do the tweeter wires lead to so i can connect it to the crossover wires?

All done no dramas!I read your previous post, took out the vent piece on the side of the glove box, found the speaker wires and was too easy from there. Sounds bloody awesome thanks a lot mate!
Good to hear, sorry i didnt get a chance to get on the net today. Its easy when you know how to do it![]()
