Hey guys,
Does anyone know where u can get spl meters from
cheers,
George
What sort? Competition ones that run via a laptop? Or just one you can fit to your dash or something?
hey i'm interested to know too, just looking to get a reading though having a metre myself would be handy.. i have a laptop..
The most accurate (and expensive) SPL meter available is the Termlab, around the $1000 mark i believe.
Not really justified if you just wanna know what SPL your car is acheiving then maybe ring your local car audio shop/s and see if they have one.
Another option is to buy a dbm-2 SPL meter, self contained unit and you can buy one for around $200-$300. Not sure where you'd get one from though...i think Egear Australia | Distributors of TREO Engineering, OZ Audio, and Waves Car Audio have them.
Not as accurate as a Termlab, but will give consistent results against itself (i own one). Mine varies in between 3-4db higher than what it is on Termlab. But if you just wanna use it to test or have a little competition in between mates etc then its fine, you can also permanently mount it in your dash etc and have it on all the time![]()

If youre a good customer then i'd imagine they'd do it for free, maybe
If not then somewhere around $20-$30 i would think to be reasonable.

I think I would like to get a reading for myself too. First with the current sealed boxes, then with ported boxes (when I get around to getting them built). The difference would be interesting to see.

hey guys thanx for the input really helps
cheers,
George
acarmody - i would imagine the difference to be around 4-5db. Depending on what the ported box is tuned to.
Guys, the average SPL reading for a commodore sedan is 130-135db, anything above that is good...i mean, loud![]()

Good, loud, absolutely kickass, whats the difference
Yeah one day I'll get off my ass and finally get the damn things built. I got a really boring shift tomorrow so maybe I'll spend it designing the box. Hmm I wonder how much it would cost to build a box out of Tassie Oak?? Practicle and looks good.![]()

LOL...Tassie Oak.

Use MDF and laminate.
LOL it was a joke from the start, though now I'm giving consideration because of its uniqueness. I wonder if I can get HDF anywhere around here?

Its expensive....if you want a strong box go with 25mm MDF.

Yeah 25mm MDF is the go, only problem is finding somewhere that has it. Local Bunnings don't have it, so I'll look around. But yeah a strong box is what I want, though I'm tempted to build a box out of the thinnest MDF I can find and blow the crap out of it.
