Been thinking about bridging my 4ch amp to just run my front splits, jst disconnect the rears.
Speakers are Focal VB165 6.5"splits
Amp is Response 4x50w
Currently running all speakers off the amp, but want to get the most outta these splits.
They already shake my side mirrors![]()
So should i bridge it & feed 160w x2 into the front, they should handle they power
hey mate, maybe your amp is newer than mine but i have the response 4x50w and it only has HPF on two channels not four
You've already answered your own question when you said that you want to get the most out of the splitsMy splits are rated at 60 RMS each, and i give them 125RMS each, so i'm more than doubling their rated input power per speaker, and i haven't had an issue with them in the 2 months or so, i've had them installed.I wouldn't worry about giving them too much power, they will only run more effeciently , as will your amp. You will know when they have reached their limits. Why are they shaking your side mirrors? are you running them at full range?? i run mine at 100hz upwards...but yeah not sure on the amp your using...if HPF isn't available on the amp on all channels, won't switching on the HPF on the head unit do the same thing?
HUH what modle or color u got, ive not seen a 4x50 with only one HPF, i worked at jaycar for a bit
There probs on around 90hz-100hz, there nice speakers, really mid bassy, y i chose em.
They thump, make the shed rattle, just like a lil crappy 10" sub would
I jst dont wanna blow em @$400, ive only had em bout a month
hey mate, mines really old i think haha its blue and rounded at the edges, sorry dont have the exact model.
what sort of music do you guys listen to running the speakers around 100hz? also, what do you have your subs tuned to? <100hz?
thanks.
Ive got my sub over powered by 800w, took me a few days to be game enough to strap my mono's to the sub to get 1800w.
SO they should be sweet, ima go out n do it now, take liek 2 sec.
How much difference u recon 110w more will do?
I miss i bit , speakers tuned to 100ish, sub is low jst under 80 to get it to sound alrite in the ported box, as its not suited :S
So right between sub n speaker bass, bass is low but i dont mind.
Rap for me, Chamilly and tech9 wats norm playin in mine, sub tuned low 35hz
i have my splits tuned to 100Hz> and the sub at 100Hz< i've found this works the best for me.Dosen't work well for rock music though i've noticed, good for RnB, some Rap, missing a little something when it plays techno, dunno still haven't completely sorted everything out yet..You won't blow them, like i said, you will know when their at the limit...
i'd say heaps mate, i run my splits on around 60wrms.. and i hooked up 140wrms to them and it made a huge difference, also increased the responsiveness and clarity, however i dont have the same splits. i still think you'll notice a huge difference though, also with volume.
ah okay, i listen to metal, i tuned them to sub <80hz and splits >80hz and its not bad, though i feel that the >100hz may be better
Im bout to go for a nice drive home, ima change it for the trip see how she goes, wont take long, bridge it then move RCA to according, so i still got L/R
looking forward to see how it hears mate.
Alrite all hooked up, got me L/R the wrong way round, but its all working.
Turned sub off, volume up to 10 n they sounded pretty good.
Can deff tell they alot louder
Have to go for a drive to see how they are, usually do rollin tunes, stop every couple km play with te filter til i iz happy.
Get back to ya's 2morro after a good blastin.
All I could think of when I read your post was what the f**k?
Mate, try it. do it. dont do it. The choice is yours.
What you like may not be what others like, its all down to what .you. want.
Would I be silly if I came onto the forum and asked if red underwear suited me?
Its down to personal preference and really doesnt matter what people say.
My advice is to try it, if its no good then switch it back.
Typically, when bridging, you'll find that most linear distortion components will cancel out (good) but that crossover distortion will be doubled (bad). That said, crossover distortion in car amps is generally pretty bad already, and most people don't notice it. That's probably because, being inharmonic in nature, it doesn't show up in the THD test cited on the spec sheet
On the upside, you'll obviously be able to drive your speakers to higher volumes without clipping, and that's a good thing. Obviously, if you start reaching the excursion limits of the drivers, you should turn it down a bit before you break your fancy system.
In short - if it makes your system sound better to you, why not?
Well the rears wont be gettin hooked up until i get another amp. The stage is nice, big throw
Sooo much better, not goin back. Even if passengers winge lol just turn it up to block em out.
Had me eyes on couple soundstream amps, Dtower1100w n one of their picasso's, bro got a picasso 4ch its sweet.
Want to replace my response crapola mono's probs end up gettin another 4ch round 130wrms so i not running them a near max.
hey mate, i'll buy the response amps if you wana sell em haha
