Im trying to hook up my amp in my vx but ive got a snag. Ive run my power wire along the passenger side and my remote wire up behind the glovebox and down along the passenger side with the power cable. I wanna run my RCA leads alond the drivers side but im not sure how to go about it any tips or experience doing this would be great appreciated.
just run them through the lower trims mate
prize the small plastic covers off and unscrew the (2?) screws front and back and you can lift up the whole trim and snake the wires under it, really easy
you will need a torx bit and a philips head screwdriver to take off the sill trims.
it would be best to rerun the power down the drivers side where the vehicle harness is.
Where the drivers lower seatbelt is pull the carpet up and run it under that bolt and through to the rear.
you will want to take out the rear seat and take out the one bolt holding the drivers-rear upper seat in place... once you take it off you will see the perfect hole in the corner to run the cables through to the boot. not the rear-middle seat holes! there will be cables already going through it so you will see where im talking about. The passenger side has the exact same hole so you can run the rca cables through on that side.
As for your rca leads, the main hole at the back of the headunit space is on the left so it makes sense to run them on the left, you want to remove the sill trims, kick panel, and centre console panel to give easy access to this region. There is a plastic screw on holder holding the carpet on, up high in the passenger foot well, screw this and wrestle with the carpet enough to get your rca cable through.. - the carpet won't totally come out at the top easily so just run it behind and up around the rear of the glove box region.. just take the glove box out to make it easy!, and around the ECU then through the sills, same deal as the drivers side at the rear of the seat...
Im doing the exact same thing right now installin maaaa lighting... and running a 0ga earth cable.
Yeah i meant to say ive run the power cable under the sill trims on the passenger side to the amp lol. I dont partically wanna have to remove the power wire after just finsishing putting it in dont mean to sound difficult. Is there a way to run the rca's through the hole on the left and then over to the drivers side?
If long enough you can run it around the rear of the car, behind the rear seats under the carpet, depends how creative your feeling.
May I ask....
What possesed you to run the power cable down the passenger side?
Thats about an extra 1.5 metres of excess cable not to mention money.
The battery is on the drivers side and so is the bung in the firewall.
Once you take the plastic sill trim off you can run it underneath it.
because ive mounted the amp on the left hand side of the boot. I only just had enough cable to get to it and i thought i ran it along the passanger side it would work out better. Plus i couldnt find where to put the cable through the firewall on the drivers side where i could see one easily on the passenger side so i thought that would be better. If its better to run it down the drivers side how would i go about doing it? Also if i was to run my rca's on the passenger side like Bradass says does he mean where all the cabling is going at the very back left or is it another spot?
i am a tool kit

Thanks for the pics Bradass. I know what im doing once ive got it into the door sill its getting the rca's from the the headunit in the door sills is the main problem and if i have to re-run my power cable how do i get it from the battery to inside the car?
there is a grommet on the firewall under the brake booster on the drivers side, I got 2x 0ga cables running through it and they enter the interior just under the steering wheel shaft... There is a shitty cardboard feeling cover in the way of the grommet, but your going to have to pull the carpet up to even see that. Run the power cable from the firewall hole to the drivers side kick panel, then back to the boot.
The RCA's are run the same on the passenger side as the power cables on the drivers side.
I will get a pic a bit later cos mine is all out atm..
Kool that would be much appreciated. I managed to run one RCA lead last night but still have another lead yet.
I've done mine the same way - power cable running down the passenger side. I had done it this way in my VN, so copied it in my wagon. Poked a hole through the wiring loom grommet.
I'm also running RCAs from the head unit down the driver's side. It's actually quite easy to do, you just need to have some patience and poke them through what you can see. Start off with poking them through the DIN unit opening, try and get ahold of them from the driver's side footwell. Pull a decent amount through, then thread them through the area around the steering column - very easy to do.
Now, the trickiest bit is getting them down through the corner trim. Easiest thing to do is remove the trim running along the length of the door, then undo the 2 screws holding the corner trim in place. Don't bother trying to get it completely out, just give yourself enough room to work with it and try and shove the RCA cables through as best as you can. Then, run them up the same way as you did with the power cable.
It took me 2 hours to do the full stereo install in my car - install the head unit, cables, amp and sub. I built myself an MDF floor for the boot (I have a wagon), made a cutout for the sub enclosure and also bolted the amp to some brackets onto the MDF behind the sub. It's rough, but pretty neat. The MDF is in two pieces so I can remove the section closest to the tailgate in order to get the spare wheel out.
Just a suggestion, why don't you run it down the center. I agree it's probably not the most quickest, but it's the most direct.
I think it's too much work to do that to be worth it, honestly. You'll also get a bulge in the carpet from the cable so there's not really any point, plus it won't be tidy when entering the boot.
ive ran the rcas down the passenger side now with the remote cable and im in the process of re-running the power cable. So practically the amps ready to go once ive run the power wire. Just got mount my speakers in the door. Is there a thread to tell you how to mount 6.5" speakers in the doors? Ive tread to modify the plastic bracket the 6" speakers where in but the magnets on the 6.5 is just to big for it even after cutting it down so i was thinking just screw it to the frame of the door but is that ok?
Actually it took me a total of 2 hours to run RCA's down the center, and if done properly you won't get any bulges in the carpet, there's too much foam under the carpet for bulges to appear. Reason for this is like I said before, it's the most direct from the head unit, and I have my speaker wires running down the passenger side, power wire running down the driver's side and my amps are mounted to each side of my boot, so I can split my RCA's from the center to each side of the boot. Pretty clean install if you ask me.
Fair enough, to me it still seems like too much work, although I'm only running one amp and no door speakers are running off the amp at this point.
i need a life OH BY THE WAY I HAVE AIDS

Exactly the same place I have mine running through.
Then it runs over to the kick panel and along the sill.
