Hey guys,
i'm doing my boot install soon, and was wondering a few things:
1. I havent got my new subs yet, however i think i'm getting two eclipse sw8000 10inch
these need around 1cu box sealed, would this be a safe guess for most good 10inch subs, incase i change my mind?
2. which way should i have the subs firing for best sq? I was going to have them facing out towards the boot lid, having the middle seat down so the sound hopefully bounces off and goes into the cabin?
3. Anyone know where the cheapest place to buy boot carpet/marine carpet?
Cheers!![]()
1. Smaller 10" woofers should be fine but more powerful ones are going to need a bigger box.
2. Generally rite up next to the boot firing out of the rear offers best results. Depends on many things so trial and error is your best friend.
3. How much you need?

Looking for tidy, not showy.
Cheers again.

Jaycar has cheap sub box carpet, and so does this place Buy Black Speaker Carpet 1 x 1.8mt - Volt Electronics
I think I got my big roll of it from autobarn simply because it was within walking distance and my car was in a million bits.
I just answered in my ride thread, but I have 2 amps on the diff hump and 1 under the false floor. The diff hump looks neat and keeps them out of the way. If you choose to have your sub up there as well there should be plenty of room to one side of it for the amp as well.
+1 for trial and error on the sub position as well, but if you have to build the box before selecting a possie for it then behind the rear seat firing towards the bootlid is always a safe option

G,Day mate, so your thinking of making the box b4 you get the subs i see, well your question isnt easily answered as a "safe guess" generally speaking. Manafactures generally give an enclosure recomendation for that give a peak performance. But your enclosure size depends also on the transfer function of your vehicle which affects certain frquencies output in relation to its input.
Without going into too much detail a smaller box gives a tighter punchier response and a bigger box gives a boomier response although that is really a generall guideline and doesnt represent most factors involved unless you want to do some research.
Funnily enough some eclipse techs have recommended using 1.75 cubic inch as a box volume with 2kg of fill. Allthough the manafacturer reccomends .3 to 1.0 cubic feet.
If you are serious about using two woofers and you want sq, you need to design the box with your personal taste in mind. In my opinion and experience one woofer sounds better but i would suggest learning more about frequency response and enclosure design. Also using one woofer firing through the ski hole will sound better. Because firing it backwards gives the sound time to reflect and distort as well as delaying its time alignment which reduces the sound quality.
Cant help you on the carpet sorry!!!! lol
