So, was driving around with music up, fairly loud. Had the windows down and smelt an electric burning smell, turned it down instantly... figured it was someone else as i still had bass.
Got home, realised my sub is now only producing like, 1/10th of the bass it was.. It's a dual voice coil alpine type r 12".. I think one of the voice coils is dead?
So... ... Now what
EDIT: Sub is in a sealed box, never had any clipping issues with it or any over excursion.
electric burning smell would more likely come from your amp/electronic equipment
It could be either the voice coil of the sub or the amp. Should be pretty obvious where its coming from
Pull the sub out and have a smell. Let us know what you find out.

Just pulled it out of the box, no burnt smell at all.
I guess this leaves me with a possible dead amp? Although it still powers on and delivers signal to the subwoofer... odd?
