Hey,
I'm thinking about re-doing the boot in my VT slightly, nothing over the top just to add a bit more function.
Currently I have the two amps attached to the back of the sub box. I was wondering though would it be alright if I were to get a piece of mdf and screw the amps to that and mount that to the rear parcel shelf. I'm not running any speakers in the parcel shelf and thought if I could do that it would free the sub box up for a little movement if I ever needed to use the split fold in the seat.
Any thoughts or has anyone done this?
You mean put the amps on top of the parcel shelf? That's pretty much an invitation for anyone who has ever even considered breaking into cars and happens to walk past your car and see all your nice expensive equipment sitting up there proudly.
Theres no real reason why it wouldnt work, but the simple fact that it would probably only last a few days is why noone does it

I think he means on the underside of the parcel shelf. If thats the case then there's no problems with doing it this way, i have done so many times where space or the ability to remove the sub box is important.

Ahh, well the underside would be the way to go. You will find one or 2 people say its bad to mount amps upsidedown but the majority (and people who know what they are talking about) say its ok.
For the record, I've never done it or been involved in a system with upsidedown amps personally

Sorry suppose I should said that I meant to the underside of the parcel shelf. I've also heard people talking about mounting upsidedown but most people seem to think it's not really an issue anymore (why I'm not completely sure but they know a lot more bout this than myself)
holdenboy since you said you've done a few is there anything I should make sure I do or avoid?
Not really mate, you can mount them upside down without any problems generally.

Nah, none at all. It's MDF covered with carpet. I used cardboard to trace a rough template, then after a few trial fits it was ready to bolt up.
It mounts to the chassis using some long bolts, and aluminium braces to clamp it through the holes in the parcel shelf. I used 4 braces, which means it can carry the weight of 2 amps, and after nearly 12 months of spirited driving they are still as firmly mounted as day 1.
Make sure you plan out where the amps will mount, so the controls are accessible and the wiring is sensible (try to avoid placing power cables next to RCAs etc).

You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
