    Default sub cut out

    Hey all.

i got a standard vt with a jvc amp (1000 watt)
and a kenwood sub 800 watts running 4 gague wire off a pioneer head deck.

the bass notes play for a bout 2 seconds then the amp goes into surge and shuts off for a sec then back on again.

    any ideas?

and yes i have checked, checked and checked the leads and they are all conected properly!
i can have the sub working but the gain cant go past half way or it shuts off i have to have it down real low which isnt cool!

Get a multimeter and put it on the + and - terminals of the amp, while the car is running play some bassy music and note what volts the amp is getting.

Do the same but with the multimeter on the battery terminals, if theres any huge difference (over a volt) then theres a problem with your wiring or connections.

Generally, the voltage should stay about 11v while the car is running.

You're not trying to fully power the amp off the remote line from the head unit by any chance? The remote line is only for remote switching of amps and/or antennas.

    + volts - - - Straight from your battery
    GND (0v) - - - Straight from your battery
    Remote - - - From head unit

It may be a silly question, best to cover all areas.

    Good luck

Post up model numbers of the amp and sub, plus the way it has been wired.

Yeah its ok to earth straight from the battery, but really unnecessary. You will get just as good as a connection if done properly in the boot etc.

This is basically straight from the battery!!!! If I had written "earth somewhere in the boot", it may create confusion for some people. I'm not intending to put down LionG, just keeping it simple.

Don't worry about picking my post apart, concentrate on the original problem!

Sorry, wasn't having a go, but to me your post said "run a ground wire direct to the battery" and was just trying to avoid confusion
