I am in the process of doing a fairly serious stereo upgrade over the next few months, that will take my system from ~1000wrms to over 2000wrms, and was wondering if my standard battery would handle it?
Currently it's a basic Century battery, and I have upgraded the earths etc, but the battery is coming up on 3 years old so will need replacing eventually anyway.
Are batteries a case of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it", or will it simply not cope with the 2kwrms and leave me stranded somewhere?

It cant hurt to upgrade it to a better battery soon, as it will give up the ghost sooner or later (like in any situation).
150db in a commodore =
I started looking at them as a "can't hurt" kinda thing, but would like a solid reason to justify the extra cost

Is this a hint to hurry up my battery group buy? :P I'm going to find out how many I need to buy before I can get a discount which I can obviously pass on.

I got a letter in the mail with some pricing which seemed cheaper than the last price list, havent compared yet. As a rule of thumb after 1000rms I would upgrade the battery. Basically to prevent voltage drops and protect the hardware, means I will see less back from damage caused by undervoltage![]()

my standard battery was near on three years old also when I installed my sound system @1300watts, within a day of a good thumping it let me down without any notice ( a cell perished ). If ya got the spare cash a new battery would be a good move i'd think
Thanks for the advice. It looks like I will probably be upgrading once I have a few new amps. Starting to get all excited as the new gear slowly rolls in

If you want to use a sound system that big (2000wrms) A dry cell battery will stop the system from cutting out. Also if you want to use the system for longer than a minute when the car is off, a bigger battery is nessacary.
