Thread: Jaycar AA0424 stable at 2ohm?

  1. Default Jaycar AA0424 stable at 2ohm?

    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone out there knows whether or not the Jaycar AA0424 2x150wRMS amp is stable at 2ohm when bridged? I bought one of these second hand, except mine is silver. It's the same model number and I think the only difference is that they paint it black now. It came with a 10inch type r sub, which has dual 4ohm voice coils. I can only wire this up for a 2ohm or 8ohm load, and I'm assuming 8ohm would be pretty weak...

I'm going to contact Jaycar about it, but thought I'd check here just in case someone has had some experience.

Nah they are not stable at 2 ohm when bridged....a good option for you would be to run each voice coil of each channel (150wrms to each coil).

You "could" run the amp at 2 ohm bridged, but you run the risk of frying something internally.

    Thanks for the reply!

Sounds like a good idea (separately wire each VC to the amp), so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes

Yeah the 2x150 amps werent the best for powering subs, ive done a few installs using the older black ones and then the newer silver ones, havent done one with the newest black models.
You could always buy another 4 ohm DVC sub, then you could wire them to 8 ohm each then together to get 4 ohm and 500wrms (250wrms to each sub).

Well, I may as well explain my story as to what I've done...

At the moment in my car I have a Clarion APX1301 powering a 10 year old Cadence 4ohm 300wRMS sub. The amp produces 300wRMS @ 4ohms. Good match, but I simply do not have enough bass. I mean, it's not bad, but yeah just not enough for me .

I came across this jaycar amp and type r, at quite a good price, and thought I'd give it a shot. In my last car I had the older black jaycar 2x150wRMS powering some pioneer 400wRMS sub, and although I was never 100% happy with that, it was definitely much louder than my current system.

I've now hit a brick wall though. My APX1301 produces 400wRMS @ 2ohm, so I tested the type r on that, but it sounded even quieter than my current 4ohm sub. The gain was near full, but the bass still wasn't strong enough. I think something is wrong somewhere, but I don't know what. I will try the jaycar amp with my old Cadence sub to see how that goes. I will probably end up blowing it, which is a shame, as it's a pretty good sub for 10 years old
