Default Wiring Amp To Speakers Help.

    Hi all,

Im almost finished installing my amp. The RCA cable is connected, the remote cable is connected and i have grounded it. Now i just have to connect the amp to my splits. The question is, do i just run the speaker wires from the amp straight to the crossovers? yeah its probably a stupid question but i don't care.

    Cheers guys.

Yep, from the amp to the crossovers. If your crossovers have woofer in and tweeter in, then you usually connect it to tweeter in, if your not going to bi-amp. Then obviously connect the woofer and tweeter to the 'out' side.

And its not a stupid question. It would have been stupid if you stood there for hours staring at it instead of asking.

Thanks for the fast reply mate, but im just a bit confused. The crossovers i have have woofer inputs, tweeter inputs and just input inputs. I thought i would have to connect the amp to the input terminals on the crossover. But do you think i need to connect the amp to the tweeter inputs on the crossover?

Also, the speaker wires have one square wire and one round wire. Which is negative and which is positive?

Hmmm so many inputs, what model splits do you have, i'll look at some pictures? And it doesn't particularly matter which wire you use for which, as long as you connect the negative on the crossover to the negative on the speaker, and the positive on the crossover to the positive on the crossover.

    Input - from the amplifier
Woofer - to the woofer in the door
Tweeter - goes to the tweeter.

Yeah it dosent matter which wire you use for positive / negative as long as its the same at both ends (crossover and amplifier).

The amp goes to the INPUT. the other two are OUTPUTS. Tweeter to tweeter output, woofer to woofer output.

depending on what type of crossover unit you've got, you do not attach the amp to the woofer or tweeter connection. 2-way 6db roll-off crossover would probably be ok to reverse the inputs, but a 12db roll-off in reverse would create problems as there are series parallel chokes and capacitors.

Alot of people think it's a matter of just plugging things in, for best results it's best to carefully select the components for the application.

I do this for a job installing cinema equipment.
