Hey guys,
I know theres a million and one threads with pretty much the same question, but I'm a bit of a n00b at stereo systems and the like.
Basically, I would like to know if this particular amp will be suited to my 240 watt JVC 6X9s. I would also like to know if anyone else has had experience with these amps and if they are any good and if the asking price of 50 bucks (secondhand) is reasonable?
Here is the details taken straight from the ad -
I realise that the ad dosn't really offer a specific model number or anything..........are more details required?"POWERVOX" 2ch amp
Ebay amp bought as a temporary measure that I held onto for a bit longer than I expected. Claims something like 2500w max/channel, but I did some reading up on them and it seems they are about 2x250wrms. I had it powering a 10" sub, which it was more than capable of handling. Could probably handle a couple of 12"s if you wanted it to.

yea probly dose 250x2 that is a good power for the 6x9's
ideally the 6x9's would be good if they 300wrms ( too much for amp but good speakers )
speaking of rms the amp would be 250x2wrms
so the 6x9's need to be 240wrms if they max 240w i guess that be all right cuz amp will have more power
so all in all it seems like amp will do fine
Okay, thanks mate.
I don't understand all of what you said, but basically what your saying is is that the AMP will be powerful enough for the speakers, but not TOO powerful.

yea it will be right
i think speakers might be 240w max so like 180w nom so amp be ideal
Okay sick, thanks mate.
Anyone else got anything else to offer?
Pricewise? Hows 50 bucks sound? It IS secondhand.......

Yeah Jo3 Blo it would be perfect for you. Definately go out and buy it right now.
Na, I'm not really going to comment - i'm the one selling it.
It is simply a cheap ebay amp, you get what you pay for. I should add on that ad that it is physically quite big, so take your available space into account.
I'll have a look for a link for you
EDIT: Also, I have never used it to power anything but that little sub, so I have no idea of the sound quality it produces at higher frequencies
Another edit: Feel free to PM me and I can try to arrange to give you a listen as it would take 5 mins to wire up

Hahaha,
I was actually just about to PM you with my interest.
However, size may be an issue, as you guessed, I don't have a lot of space in my ute. Was hoping it would be small being a seemingly low capacity one. But then again, in the world of electronics the cheaper ones are bigger and the expensive ones smaller lol.
I will PM you tomorow mate.![]()
But yeh, the sub you were using would be no smaller than my two 6X9s though would it....

Oh I have no doubt that it would be able to power them. It's just how good it would sound while doing so that I'm not 100% on. If you aren't really fussy about your music then it would sound fine (90% of the population).

hang on. wait a minute.... 250wrms? Into a pair of 6x9s? That will tear them a new asshole. Way to big. Buy it anyway to run a sub but for christ sake, that will give your 69ers a heartattack.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
if the 6x9's are rated at 250w then they will be fine if they are rated to what i think they are 180w they will be fine you just dont go to full volume
you can hear when a speaker is a bout to break it sounds difernt to a speaker geting underpowerd at full vol when it's coils are burnig out
I'd be a bit sceptical of the apparent 250w rms rating of the amp, I have the sneaking suspicion it wouldn't rate anywhere close to that if bench tested. That being said, the power output from it should be ample for a set of 6x9s, and for the price why not?
I just had a look at the JVC site, and their current 6x9's are quoted as things like 290w max/50wrms, so I assume yours would be about 40-50wrms. That amp may well be a bit of overkill, but shouldn't break anything if you don't do anything silly like turn the gain all the way up.
I didn't see that site I linked to up there ^^^^ when I first got this amp, so the 250wrms I quoted was an estimation based on what I read from other sites (probably mostly forums). That site I linked to claims 2x220wrms, but even then it could be a bit under that. You never can be too certain with claims made by some manufacturers
EDIT: Sorry, I was going to keep out of this. I'll shutup now

yea i dident know if he meant 250 rms or max so i just down rated at avrege for all speakers tweeters subs and splits
but yea that sounds exactly right 40-50
that is quite a lot of power thouh
considering 100w sub is only half as loud as a 1000w sub
is there a fly in here?
I kid, I kid because I love
Cheers guys, nah don't worry philthy, I'm taking your input into account just as much as the next blokes.![]()
And my speakers are definitely JVC 240W 3 way speakers, 4 ohms. If that helps at all.
Well, I'm not one of those people who spend big bucks on a stereo, I just want my music to sound pretty good, and be able to crank it up a bit when I feel the need without the speakers crackling and stuff lol........that's such a killjoy.![]()
So yeh, that amp DEFINITELY not gonna damage my speakers, like overpower them or anything like that?

huh? Dude, it'll rip those 6x9s a new one with an inexperienced person behind the volume control.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Do you mean the gain control thing for the amp or the volume for the speakers?
FORSALE - BRICKIES TRESTLES + SOLID STEEL SPIRAL STAIRCASE. -

He means it will be easy to overpower the speakers and cause them to distort. If you set the gain properly and know you maximum volume (on the head-unit) it shouldnt be a problem.
150db in a commodore =
Okay, will I still be able to turn em up nice and loud, or would I be better off to try find a less powerfull amp?
