    Default TV Tuners

I couldnt find any other thread with info for this, but sorry if it is a repeated topic. I have a sony double dvd player Sony XAVW1, and i was wondering if there are any aftermarket companies out and about that have a tv tuner that can be connected to it at all? I did here a few years back there was a company that made a car tv tuner, but never had a tv in the car and i have also forgotten the company. If anyone has any info, both good or bad, please let me know.

    Cheers

I think he means an add-on to his already double din sony head unit, which enables it to view tv..
Personally I wouldn't think you could? Because you'd have to reprogram the headunit to view tv, and include an icon for it.. Let me know if you do find one though.

What I'm talking about is a Digital Tv Tuner you plug into the video in rca on the back pf the unit. There is no reprogramming of the head unit you just set it to av1 or av2 depending on what you have. That's what I bought for my monitor and that's what I understood him to be asking but sorry if I'm wrong.

yes you can buy an alpine tv tuner that will intergrate with the iva-w502ev as well as the older iva-w202 and iva-w200. This means no extra remote needed to change channels. It can be used as a stand alone by buying the remote and infrared eye for an extra $100 There are a few types of antennas you can use, filmstrip, bumper bar and magnetic. Price ranging from 600 to 750. Its hard to say which is better from car to car.
Digital TV tuners for cars are highly sensitive, do not waste your time with cheap ones.
There is also a HiTV branded tuner, pure 1 and pure 2, the pure two is supposed to have better reception with more inputs and outputs and uses powered film strip antennas. $650
Both are very good tuners although some cars dont work well because of compatibility issues with the electrics. Specifically the ve commodore doesnt work very well with digital tuners.
All tuners glitch depending on vehicles in severity, and consistency. They glitch when operating wipers, turn signals etc, only when you first use the switches though. Id say 85 percent of vehicles work satisfactorily.

The alpine tuner you were talking about obviously wont work with my Sony in dash tv though, so that would leave the pure1 and 2. I did see them on lifestyle website and yeah the price was up there, but they claim the pure 2 is alot better than the first version, with major glitches fixed or something like that

Yes the alpine will work with the Sony. It can be used as a stand alone which means getting the remote control and infrared eye that you mount inconspicuously in the dash, the alpine tuner produces a composite av output which you connect to the sony av input. You control the tuner by pointing the remote at the infrared eye.

Ok cool. Just had a look on the alpine website and damn, that is pricey.. I dont think i need one that badly to spend about $600-$700 for tv whilst in the car. I will just stick to dvd's lol
