Has anyone tried to use a "Belkin TuneBase FM with Hands-Free" in their car?
Belkin : TuneBase FM with Hands-Free
The lighter socket in my VX has a somewhat narrow access and I am unsure this thing will fit.
I had one of these in my old car (Mazda 121), and I hate to say it, I had nothing but problems with it.
I bought the first one in Melbourne at JB Hi Fi, took it home to Cairns & plugged it in. The instructions implied that when a call came through, the voice of the other person would play through the car audio. This didn't happen but the other side of it (music playing through the iPhone) worked so I just put up with it - I don't usually answer calls in the car anyway so it wasn't a huge deal.
After a week or so, it stopped working - when you plug it in, it's supposed to light up with the station number and then play music once you turn on your iPod. The trouble started when I plugged it in - nothing happened, no lights, no numbers.
Took it back to the JB Hi Fi in Cairns & they tested it in-store, agreed it didn't work & gave me a new one.
This one lasted another week or so then had the same problem - didn't turn on at all. Interestingly, the phone didn't play through the car speakers either. Again, JB tested it in-store and agreed that it didn't work - so it definitely wasn't my car!
I ended up getting a store credit from JB Hi Fi - I got to the point where I was sick of having something that I spent $150 doing half the job or none at all. I don't know if I just had a bad couple but either way, it was very frustrating.
Don't know if that's helpful to your original question but might be helpful before you decide to buy one![]()
Thanks for the post. After reading it, I think I'll steer clear of that one.
I found another way of doing what I wanted. I will buy just an iphone windscreen mount and one of these:
Amazon.com: Satechi Bluetooth Hands-free Car Stereo Fm Transmitter for iPhone 3Gs & 3G and Bluetooth Stereo A2DP supported Devices: Electronics
Will see how that goes.
