Well I just got my first car and it had THIS head unit in it. I was just wondering, Would it be suitable for a mid range stereo system? All I am looking at is some decent front speakers, Good rears and maybe a sub woofer in the boot. I would prefer a good quality sound over loudness. Could someone also recommend some good fronts for around $200 a pair, And some good rears for about $120. Cheers
Its not a bad head-unit, but lacks a few things. Youre probably best to keep it for now, and if / when you need to upgrade you can. But it is capable of producing a semi-decent sound system anyway.
Front splits - The Jaycar splits arent too bad for the money, also the Digital Designs DDC6.5 too. I would suggest going into your local car audio store and having a listen to a few splits within the $200 price range. You'll probably find a set or two that you like more than the others, i must stress though an external amp is ideal for these too.
Rears - Not really needed, if you must have a set then just any half decent pair of 6-6.5" coaxials will be fine.

Ok, What sort of amp would I be looking at? Thanks mate.
This is what you are asking for:
Fronts: Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics SD-6.2
Rears: Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics TD-602
This will get BETTER results:

If your only looking at spending $320 on the fronts and rears then I would strongly recommend you skip the rear speakers and invest the entire amount into good quality front speakers. The quality of the sound will be dramatically better with this sort of setup.
