Default <<<<Quick Questions b4 amp inst. on stock HU>>>>....

I'm about to atempt to install an amp to my stock headunit and its the first time ive done it.

I want to connect the amp from speaker wires (line out). It says in the maual to "crimp and solder RCA connectors to the end of the speaker wire running from the high-level speaker outputs".

Question 1. Do I have to do this or can i just cut the plugs off my RCA wire and splice them in?

It says that if I can not connect a remote wire I can put the switch to "DC offset turn-on" This will detect a 6 volt surge from the high level speaker outputs when the source is turned on.

Question 2. Will the stock headunit send a 6v surge when it is turned on??? If it does is it better to attatch a remote wire??? it would be alot easier if I didnt have to.

Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Crimp and solder RCA plugs to speaker cable??? Thats a big no no, youre turning a high level output (speaker wires from the head-unit) into a low level input (RCA plugs going to the amps low level inputs). Definitely not recommended, you will need to buy a line out converter (LOC) to convert the speaker wires into RCA cables.

What amp are you going to install? I cant believe they suggested to do this.
Does the amp have high level inputs?
Are you planning on running speakers or a sub/s off the amp?

As far as the DC offset turn-on part, i'd be more inclined to run a dedicated remote wire, i would say your stock head-unit will produce 6v without trouble, but it wont be on a low volume level as far as i know.

The amp has high level inputs its a kicker zx750.1 for an l7 sub. It has a button to select high or low level inputs.

Do i need these rca connectors?

OK ive had a bit of a search and found that you actually can attach RCA plugs to the speaker wires, just make sure you select "high" for the input level.
Basically yes just cut the plugs off a RCA cable and connect the + speaker wire to the middle conductor of the RCA cable, the negative speaker wire goes to the outer conductor.
Seems i havent come across these Kicker amps and needed a high level input.....or i have and cant remember lol.

Try out the dc detect switch and see if the amp turns on when you turn the stereo on, if it works then you wont have to worry about the remote trigger wire.

Sorry for the first post, i thought you may have been installing a cheap as amp and they were telling you to "dodgy" up the inputs

if the h/u doesnt have rca out go to a car audio or jaycar and tell them you need the connectors from you speaker line outputs to connect to a external amp. and use your electric arial wire to connect that to the remote on the amp

still sounds pretty dodgy to me, i would personally get a cheap LOC and use low level inputs instead

Yeah true.....its only for a sub though, couldnt see a LOC making a huge amount of difference. Although in saying that i'd probably go with one.

I did it last night. I bought some cheap speaker wire to rca converters and connected it. While i was there i connected the remote wire aswell. So its all done legit and sounds awesome.

    Thanks MEANVN
