Hey Hey Guys and Girls,
I am looking at installing a subwoofer and amp into my existing setup (Amp with 4 x 6”s), however I have very limited boot space (as I use the boot a fair bit), I was wondering what infinite baffle subwoofers you guys recommend? I feel this would be a good alternative as it would maximize boot space and cancel out the need for a large space consuming enclosure . I don’t have any brand preference, just after a decent sub, with a good output level. I am looking for a 10” or 12” driver with a resistance of 4ohm though.
Cheers,
-Cul

there is a lot of work involved to get infinite baffle to work well in a car for starters you need to completely seal off the boot from the rest of the cabin and then have the boot venting out of the car itself. are you sure you are not just after a sub that can run free air?

If you find out the kinda specs you need I can try to source you an appropriate woofer. I can't remember which woofers suite this requirement off the top of my head.

well ok if you know what is involved for IB then agruably the best IB sub available is the JBL W15GTi
they make a 12" version too
i wouldnt really recomend a free air sub myself. are you sure you cant fit a small (1ft3) box say in the rear quarter panel? you will have a lot more choice of drivers and it wont take up much room at all
why on earth would you want to vent a IB sub outside the vehicle? When you use your entire boot space as a IB enclosure you already lose the majority of your mechanical resistance. Basically, throw a 500wrms sub in there and you would not be able to give it anymore then a 100wrms before it starts flapping around like a bird.
For the record.. a true Infinite baffle is any sealed enclosure. But I know thats not what you are talking about here. Cul Baire, I think what you are asking about is a free-air sub, pretty hard to find these days dude, they kind of went out as fast as they came in. If you could find one, then for sure, mount it in the middle of your rear seats facing into the cabin and then put a mixing bowl over the rear of it to protect it from stuff in the boot! Done it before and it's worked well! Just need to keep your centre seat down all the time. It won't go low but it will kick you in the head like a wild horse. No bigger then 10" probably prefer an 8"
BUT....ideally mate, you want a pair of 6x9 subs and an amp to drive them. Will do a quick search at work for you tomorrow and see what I can find.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
I think someone is getting aperiodic membrane and infinite baffle confused... I won't say who though
The link doesn't mention that aperiodic membranes need the rear vented away.
not sure, but I think it could be me, I'm kind of familiar AP setups but not 100% sure on the concept. Unless your talking about my reference to the mixing bowl over the rear of the sub, which is "kind: of like an AP set-up but instead of a membrane it is a solid surface. But I wasn't confusing that with an infinite baffle set-up. Yes, a sealed enclosure is an infinite baffle although generally you use a much larger area then a conventional enclosure.
Shit, now you have me second guessing myself.

Haha. Nah, 2LOUD2OLD's reference to venting the boot out of the car is something I've heard about with AP setups. By that description I linked to above, it doesn't seem like that's the case at all.
Don't do that again to me. lol

ok well i was just basing my comment on the people i know that have IB setups (or at least claim they do) and all of them have vented outside the car
How do you vent outside the car? Leave the boot open? No, seriously... How would they do that?
Cul Baire, I did some searching today and I can't get 6x9s subs at the moment. Another thought would be like the faftory set-up. A pair of 8" subs mounted into spacers mounted over the top of the factory 6x9 holes with an amp running them...that would be a good sound.

Why, they already have holes cut into them anyway. My VX has 4 air vent holes in the boot already, down the side. I think they are to let pressure out of the car so you can shut the doors and boot properly.

that and also for when you have the air set to "fresh" fan shoves air in...but it's gotta go somewhere!
