hey
I have some Cadence 6" splits and i want to know, how do i install them in the front door??
i have 2 MDF rings and thats it
thanks
Well firstly your going to have to cut a hole in your door trims. Do this by placing the MDF ring you have, onto the door trim, and tracing around the inner circle.(but don't cut yet!!) You going to have to measure the mounting depth of your speaker, and make sure that the MDF ring you have, is going to give you enough clearance between the speaker magnet, and the inner door,( i will cover this) you may have to use additional rings, to gain enough clearance. Also be sure that your windows still go up and down, with out making contact with the speaker. Also make note of the manual window winders, and be sure that they will have sufficient clearance once the speaker is in place.
Your going to have to run some speaker wire, from either you amp (are you using one) or from your headunit. I wouldn't reccomend using any original wire either, i'd be using new wire. You will need to find somewhere in the door, most commonly you will find a gromet on the inside of the front door, around the hinges, but not being familiar with VK's, you may have to drill a hole, in which you can feed the wire through. Make sure you make some sort of effort to cover the wire whenever you run it through bear metal, as over time, it can rub though the coating on the wire, causing you all sorts of problems.
Next up, you going to have to remove your door trim, starting with any exterior peices such as window winders, door handles, and any locking mechanisms that are visible form the inside. Once your trim is off, you can make the cut that you traced out previously. You can also proceed to run your speaker cable through the door, and again, take note of any moving parts that may interfere with the wiring, and ensure they will not come into contact. Now is probably the best time, to run your windows up and down, and check that you are going to have enough clearance.
Now that you have cut the holes for your speakers, ran your wiring, and double checked everything, you can mount your MDF rings to your door trims, by drilling a pilot hole from the inside from your trim, into the MDF ring. A pilot hole is essential as the trim will push away from the ring as your begin to screw them together. Once completed, i suggest using some silican sealant, around the inside edges, (do this on both sides of the door trim) to help seal any air leaks, and also help with strengthening once your speakers are mounted.
You can then attach your speaker wire to your speakers, having plenty of slack at both ends will make this easier. You are now ready to mount your speakers the MDF rings. Place the speaker up against the MDF ring, and mark out where your screws are going to go.Make sure they are not going to come into contact with the screws you used for mount your rings.
From then on it's a matter of re-assmebling everything, in opposite order as to how it came off. Remember to mark each wire on both sides as pos, or neg, or write it down somewhere as your working, so you don't get mixed up once your trim is back on.
That's your mid drivers done, next you can move onto your tweeters and crossovers, which i won't cover now, as it's too much to write, but i can assist with that part when your ready. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and i will do my best to help you, otherwise, their are plenty of other members, who will be bale to help you through it.

thanks
ummmmmmm, okay. What was the point of the angle grinder?
Does anyone know the best way to set up a sound system in my HSV vxII xu6
ahh.. i understand, ill pull off the door trims when im with it again and see the doors and see if there are the holes there
thanks
A Jigsaw with a metal blade in it will cut through the metal fine. But before cutting anything make sure your not going to hit something inside the door (like the window channel or winder etc).
Once thats done, mark out your cutout, drill a hole for the jigsaw blade to go through and hang on while you try and stick to your texta mark lol, best way is to brace yourself against the sill panel and with your knee push on the door so it stays fully open.
150db in a commodore =
thanks, will do that some day soon..
thanks
Woah woah, jigsaw blades, angle grinders.... are you guys serious.... the metal inside the door trim is not much stronger than an aluminium can. Tin snips gives you a nice clean round hole done in about 40 seconds, and there was never a factory hole in any VB VC VH VK VL door.
Just remember the 15cm by 15cm trick and you clear the double metal skin and are able to wind down your windows.
15x15 trick, whats that???
15 cm up, 15 cm accross, when looking at the left corner of the drivers door trim, and obviously the right corner for the passenger side. Luke actually explained this to you already.>best way to install speakers in vk door
You need to listen to what people are saying...
