    Default pricing rip off?

I asked autobahn in penrith about an installation. I was gettin a headunit, and a sub and amp, I supplied the facia to seperate double to single din, but had no wiring kit.
The fella said the 4 gague wiring kit is normally $180, but can do it for $100, and all together it was 288. I thought that was super high, since autobahn in orange said 88 for the hu and 60 for the amp+sub because it was both at the same time.. And 180 for a wiring kit.. I thought that was f*cking high!
Anyway im new to the audio game so any input would be a help!
Ps. Its a alpine ida x300 headunit, clarion 12" sub with a 1000w kenwood monoblock amp.

$180 for a wiring kit, most likely 8-gauge too, that's a joke. You can get a 4-gauge wiring kit for about $100. But $100ish for a H/U and $60 to wire up an amp sounds about right. They may seem like fairly easy jobs but its the time that adds up.

The bloke said the wiring kit is around 180 for a 4 gague, but he could do it for 100.. So there I knew he was talkin smack giving 80 bucks in 2 seconds..

Yeah Stocky is right you can get them cheap off Ebay, just find a reputable seller. And its not that shops are overpriced, its just they have more costs than an Ebay seller. A general rule is that you buy the biggest cable you can afford. 4-Gauge will be plenty for your kit if you don't plan on upgrading in the future.

A wiring kit is just that, a kit, with everything you need. Any kit they sell in a store will have everything so don't let them convince you to get anything else.

Basically you need a RCA cable to run from the deck to the boot, just say that to a salesman and he should straight away say here and hand you them. But a wiring kit will already have them in it. You can get different brands of RCA cables, with varying price tags, just remember you don't need the really expensive ones, $20 should cover it.

Labour prices are spot on....$60 to install an amp is cheaper than i charge

Be careful about cheap 4AWG amp wiring kits too, ive seen major differences in actual copper content in between brand "A" and brand "B"....this amounts to less conductivity and therefore less power output from the amp.

That kit from Ebay looks OK, but looks can be deceiving haha.

The guy told me because the whole cars apart, it'd be cheaper so 88 for the hu and 60 for the amp

That kit on Ebay already has RCA cable.

For $180 it would want to be really good. I picked up a Stinger HPM 0-gauge kit for $180. Just because a kit looks cheap doesn't make it crap, and the OP is installing a mono amp, so he only needs one set of RCAs. And cheap RCA brands don't 'make' engine noise, its usually made by incorrect installation of other components.
