hey guys
Just needed some info.
I have a VY II Calais. Tomorrow i am having installed a Pioneer AVH-P6050DVD. Along with the Cat10 and the Ipod Adaptor thingo.
I Also have some pioneer 6" splits and 2 amps. 1 is a Clarion Monoblock, the other is a Pioneer 4 Channel, i think its a 650w or something.
also a Infinity Kappa sub
Obviously i will be running the speakers from the 4 channel and the sub from the monoblock.
Just trying to figure one thing out. I have room for 4 more speakers in the car. in the back doors and what ever goes on the parcel shielf.
Can i safely run 6 speakers from a 4 channel or should i keep it at 4. If i keep the speaker count at 4 , which should i get ? 2 more 6" ones for the back doors, or 2 for the parcel shielf?
Whilst im here, what size are the ones on the parcel shielf and what can be purchased that will drop straight in that has good performance without cutting the shielf?
Thanks
raZel

I would just replace the rear door speakers with 6-6.5" coaxials. I believe the parcel shelf has 6" x 9" holes cut out already, but theres sheet metal tack welded into these holes. A little bit of prying and they'll come out. Also the top cover piece (bit with carpet on it) will need to be cut and grilles put in the holes, Aerpro make a set of grilles exactly for this:
VTVY96 : 6x9 Speaker grilles VT/VY Commodore, Grey :: New Products
So theres abit more work to adding 6x9s into the parcel shelf. Its only a good idea if you dont want to add a sub / box as the 6x9s give you a little more bass output (not needed for your setup as you have a sub).

vy calais has 8" woofers in the parcel shelf from memory, so would need some sort of adaptor for 6x9s in there. Not worth the effort imo. I agree with holdenboy, cheap pair of coaxials in the rear doors, or just leave them stock.
yeah wasn't it only VT-VX that had the 6x9 cut out's? i could be wrong..
Yeah i wasnt sure on the parcel shelf holes......i knew the VT-VXs had them but wasnt 100%
Thanks guys![]()

Just to add, does the OP now plan on replacing the stock rear's, and then using the 4 channel to run them, and the fronts at the same time?
Yeah i think i might just get some speakers for the parcel shelf. i think its going to be good... Just wondering though. How hard is the parcel shelf to modify? I have to take out the 2 stock subs. Is there a stock amp somewhere as well?
Thanks Guys
